What language do Jinns speak?

Many spiritual researchers claim that Pashto spoken by Pashtuns/Afghans is derived from the language of Jinns while others reject it. We have covered this topic in detail here;

Prophet Sulaiman – the language of Jinns

As per Islam, Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام could speak to birds, insects, animals, and jinns as he knew their language. It is also evident in various verses of the Holy Quran and numerous Hadith.

We subjected some Jinns to work under him by his Lord’s Will. And whoever of them deviated from Our command, We made them taste the torment of the blaze. – Saba 34:12

The Jinns made what he ordered them to make for him, including palaces, dwellings, places of prayer statues, bowls like reservoirs, and stationary kettles. – Saba 34:13

Reading these verses of the Holy Quran, we can easily establish that Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام could talk to Jinns.

Afghan – the son of Prophet Sulaiman

According to the research conducted by Dr. Muhammad Javed Khalil from the University of Peshawar (UoP), Rehoboam and Afghan’ were the sons of Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام.

While Rehoboam became the 5th King of Israel after the death of Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام and got the Kingship in his inheritance, Afghan showed his interest in learning the language of Jinns.

This was when Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام taught Afghan, the language Jinns speak and named it Pashto.

Historians believe that the descendants of Afghan were named Afghanis or Pashtuns, and they started speaking the language they learned from their forefathers, i.e., Pashto.

From “Bataan” to “Pathan”

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ once sent Khalid Bin Waleed رضي الله عنه to Afghanis for help. The tribal leader of Afghans, Qais Abdul Rasheed, showed up with his warriors to assist in the war.

With their help, the Muslims were able to win the war, and this was when they were given the title of “Bataan” by Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

Batan is an Arabic word that means strong as wood. Soon, the word Batan was replaced with “Pathan” due to regional effects.

What is the language of Jinns?

Similar to human beings, Jinns talk in the language of the area they live in; they also have different regional dialects, just like us.

However, due to their longer lifespan and ability to adapt, some Jinns may also learn and pick up other languages, allowing them to communicate with a wider range of creatures.

There is a possibility that Pashto is derived from the language of Jinns which was taught by Prophet Sulaiman عليه السلام to his son Afghan, but this is not the only language this super creature speaks.
