Khadija was a businesswoman

People who consider Islam a backward religion should know that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ married a practical businesswoman 1400 years ago.

Khadija bint Khuwaylid رضي الله عنها was born in a family of merchants, his father was one of the most reputable and successful merchants in Makkah. She took over the business after the death of her father and continued the trade.

A proposal to Prophet Muhammad 

Islam respects the emotions of men and women for each other within the prescribed limits and this is what was exhibited by Hazrat Khadija bint Khuwaylid رضي الله عنها.

Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started working for Khadija bint Khuwaylid رضي الله عنها. She was inspired by his honesty that she sent a marriage proposal that the Holy Prophet accepted.  

She married at 40

These days women in Muslim society feel awkward to get married at the age of 40 but this is not what Islam or Khadija رضي الله عنها teaches us.

Khadija رضي الله عنها married Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when she was 40 and he was 25. Together they had six children;

  1. Qasim ibn Muhammad.
  2. Zainab رضي الله عنها.
  3. Ruqayyah رضي الله عنها.
  4. Umm Kulthoom رضي الله عنها.
  5. Fatimah رضي الله عنها.
  6. Abdullah رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ.

Khadija is the first Muslim

The revelations to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ  started during his marriage to Khadija رضي الله عنها and she was the first person to believe in him and embrace Islam.

She spent her entire wealth on Islam

One’s financial condition is a test and Khadija رضي الله عنها gave a large sum of her earnings to the poor and to the orphans, widows, and the ailing.
