Hazrat Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ, the wife of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was the first person to embrace Islam. Here are some facts about Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ that every Muslim woman should know.
Khadija was a businesswoman
People who consider Islam a backward religion should know that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ married a practical businesswoman 1400 years ago.
Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ was born in a family of merchants, his father was one of the most reputable and successful merchants in Makkah. She took over the business after the death of her father and continued the trade.
A proposal to Prophet Muhammad
Islam respects the emotions of men and women for each other within the prescribed limits and this is what was exhibited by Hazrat Khadija.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started working for Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ. She was inspired by his honesty that she sent a marriage proposal that the Holy Prophet accepted.
She married at 40
These days women in Muslim society feel awkward to get married at the age of 40 but this is not what Islam or Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ teaches us.
Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ married Prophet Muhammad ﷺ when she was 40 and he was 25. Together they had six children;
- Qasim
- Abdullah
- Zainab
- Ruqqaiya
- Umme Kulthum
- Fatimah.
Khadija is the first Muslim
The revelations to Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started during his marriage to Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ and she was the first person to believe in him and embrace Islam.
She spent her entire wealth on Islam
One’s financial condition is a test and Khadija رَضِيَ ٱللَّٰهُ عَنْهُ gave a large sum of her earnings to the poor and to the orphans, widows, and the ailing.
