Saudi govt employees banned from private business

Saudi Arabia has banned government employees to run or work in private businesses.

The Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development told that government workers cannot open up a commercial registry for a private business.

Moreover, government employees who are already running private businesses in Saudi Arabia would also be required either to sell those businesses or close them down.

The ministry’s explanation came in response to a query over the possibility of allowing schoolteachers to have a commercial registry, practice e-commerce, or hold training courses.

What is the impact on Expats?

Expats with Iqamas issued by businesses owned by Saudi government employees would be in trouble now. Their sponsors will either have to sell of these businesses or shut them down completely.
