SR 500,000 fine for removing someone from WhatsApp group

According to Ahmad Ajab, who is a Saudi legal advisor, if an admin removes a WhatsApp group member from the group inflicting damages on the victim, the admin can be served with SR 500,000 fine and jail sentence.

However, this is applicable if the member’s removal has resulted in damages that are proven by the victim with proper documentation as per Article 3 of the Saudi Anti-Cybercrime Law.

The law states that if defamation or damages are caused by the use of information technology devices then the culprit shall serve imprisonment extending to one year and a fine not exceeding SR 500,000 or to either punishment.

It has been thereby advised to the people of Saudi Arabia to be mindful, ethical, and moral while using WhatsApp or any other IT-enabled service.
