Uber & Careem suspend “Taxi Service” in Saudi Arabia

Careem and Uber have suspended their “taxi services” in Saudi Arabia following the instructions of the Saudi government.

The Saudi government had announced a ban on domestic flights, buses, taxis, and trains starting from March 21 for a period of 2 weeks. As a result of these instructions, Uber and Careem have made the following announcements.

Careem Announcement

Careem in its announcement that “In compliance with the government's measures to curb the coronavirus, we have suspended the “Taxi” car in the application.

Remember that going out should only be for urgent matters. When necessary, you can book GO or any other preferred car through the Careem application.

Uber Announcement

Uber in its announcement said, “As per the measures announced by the Ministry of Interior, we are suspending Uber Taxi in Saudi Arabia until further notice. However, the measures do not include private cars on ride-sharing applications.

All other options on the Uber App including Uber X, UberComfort and Uber Eats are still available for essential travel and delivery.

Coronavirus in Saudi Arabia

The total number of coronavirus cases in Saudi Arabia has already reached 511 out of which 17 patients have fully recovered and went back to their homes. Riyadh is the most infected city so far.
