Sunnah way of Azan and Iqamah for newborn baby

Whenever a child is born in a Muslim family, the sunnah way is to say the words of Azan and Iqamah in the ears of a newborn baby boy or girl. In this article, we have explained how to give azan in a baby ear?

Muslim parents want to make sure that the child is brought up according to Islamic values. A Hadith proves that it is sunnah to say the words of Azan and Iqamah in the ears of a newborn baby boy or girl.

  1. A male or a female can say Azan

The Sunnah reveals that the Azan and Iqamah shall be recited in the ears of the newborn. Preferably a male shall recite both Azan and Iqamah into the ears of the newborn, otherwise, the mother can give azan to the newborn.

  1. Face the Qiblah

To recite the words of Azan and Iqamah in the ears of a newborn baby boy or girl in the sunnah way, the child shall be held facing the Holy Kaaba.

  1. Right and left ear

The words of Azan shall be recited in the right ear of a newborn baby boy or girl and the Iqama be called in the left ear. Note that حيَّ على الصلاة of both Adhan and Iqamah shall be recited in the right ear and حيَّ على الفلاح of both Adhan and Iqamah in the left ear.

  1. Low Voice

It shall be also made clear that there is no need to give Azan and Iqamah a loud voice in the ears of a newborn baby boy or girl.

It can be recited at a medium voice level; thereby it is not necessary to place fingers in ears while reciting both Azan and Iqamah.
