Allah has sent 124,000 Prophets out of which one was Hazrat Noah عليه السلام who had 4 sons and 16 grandsons. He was not only a Nabi but a Rasool as well.

According to Islamic scripture, Prophet Noah عليه السلام was the fourth Prophet of Islam after Prophet Adam عليه السلام, Prophet Sheeth عليه السلام, and Prophet Idris عليه السلام.
Birth of Prophet Noah
Prophet Noah عليه السلام was born in 2948 BC in Mesopotamia (Iraq) and died in 1998 BC at the age of 950 years. He was born in the 9th generation of Prophet Adam عليه السلام.
There is a gap of almost 1056 years between Hazrat Noah عليه السلام and Prophet Adam عليه السلام. According to an estimate, Prophet Idris عليه السلام was 434 years old when Prophet Noah عليه السلام was born.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in the 72nd generation of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام.
Prophet Noah in Quran
The name of Prophet Noah عليه السلام is mentioned 43 times in the Holy Quran at different places.
It is said that Hazrat Noah عليه السلام became the Rasool of Allah at the age of 50 when he was assigned to preach the message of Allah. He invited people to the right path but most of them did not agree.
As a result, Allah Almighty got angry with them and decided to punish them. Prophet Noah عليه السلام was ordered to build a big Ark. He made a big ark with the following size;
- Length 135 meters.
- Width 22.5 meters.
- Height 13.5 meters.
- Genesis 6:15
People started making fun of him but he ignored them as he knew it was important to fulfill Allah’s order.
Waghilah – the wife of Prophet Noah
The name of the wife of Prophet Noah عليه السلام was Waghilah who used to give away the identity of the new believers so the disbelievers could persecute them.
Allah sets forth an example for the disbelievers: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot. Each was married to one of Our righteous servants, yet betrayed them. So their husbands were of no benefit to them against Allah whatsoever. Both were told, “Enter the Fire, along with the others!” – At-Tahrim 66:10
A Pair of each living things
When the ark was finally built, he placed food into the ark. He also collected believers to come along with him in the ark. Also, a pair of many kinds of animals were taken along.
‘And of every living thing of all flesh, you shall bring two of every sort into the ark to keep them alive with you. They shall be male and female. Of the birds according to their kinds, and of the animals according to their kinds, of every creeping thing of the ground, according to its kind, two of every sort shall come into you to keep them alive.’ – Genesis 6:19–20.
The great flood came in 2348 BC when Hazrat Noah عليه السلام was 600 years old. According to Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه, there were 80 people in the ark.
Soon, the rain started slow and ended up with a drastic flood! The rain grew heavier and heavier and there was water all around. The bad people got frightened and scared of the huge flood that had hit them. Only the people in the ark were safe from Allah’s punishment!
And when the people of Noah rejected the messengers, We drowned them, making them an example to humanity. And We have prepared a painful punishment for the wrongdoers. – Al-Furqan 25:37
Yam – a son of Prophet Noah
Prophet Noah عليه السلام had 4 sons out of which the youngest one was Yam who stayed back with the non-believers and died in the flood.
Noah called out to his son, who stood apart, “O my dear son! Come aboard with us and do not be with the disbelievers.” – Hud 11:42
Noah called out to his Lord, saying, “My Lord! Certainly, my son is ˹also˺ of my family. Hud 11:45
Allah replied, “O Noah! He is certainly not of your family—he was entire of unrighteous conduct. So do not ask Me about what you have no knowledge of! – Hud 11:46
Yam replied, “I will take refuge on a mountain, which will protect me from the water.”

- And the waves came between them, and his son was among the drowned. – Hud 11:43
Prophet Nuh Family Tree
It is said that Prophet Noah عليه السلام was almost 500 years old when he was blessed with 3 sons Shem, Ham, and Japheth. It means that at the time of the flood, all three sons were around 100 years old.
Hazrat Noah عليه السلام was accompanied by his 3 sons named Shem, Ham, and Japheth along with their believing wives. These 3 sons of Noah were blessed with 16 sons.
Now, these 16 grandsons of Noah are distributed around the world and spread in number over years. One of them is our great ancestor.
Shem – a son of Prophet Noah
Shem was the eldest son of Prophet Noah عليه السلام and he was blessed with five sons named Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram. According to many Islamic scholars, Shem was a Prophet of Allah.
It is believed that Prophet Shem عليه السلام was born in 2448 BC and died in 1848 BC at the age of 600 years.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in the 71st generation of Prophet Shem عليه السلام.
Arphaxad was the son of Shem and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام. He is referred to as the founder of Chaldea. Arphaxad Ibn Shem was born in 2346 BC, 2 years after the great flood, and died in 1908 BC at the age of 438 years.
Prophet Hud عَلَيْهِ ٱلسَّلَامُ was the grandson of Arphaxad Ibn Shem from his son Shalekh Ibn Arphaxad.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was born in the 70th generation of Arphaxad Ibn Shem from his son Shalekh Ibn Arphaxad.
Aram was the son of Shem and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام The Hebrew word for Syria is Aram. In the Old Testament, you would observe that the translation of the word Syria is Aram. Moreover, the people of Syria are known as Arameans while their language is known as Armani.
Prophet Saleh عليه السلام was born in the 7th generation of Aram Ibn Shem from his son Ather Ibn Aram.
Elam was the son of Shem and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام The ancient and historic name of Iran is Persia while the historic name of Persia is Elam. The Persian Jews were called Elamites at the Pentecost.
Asshur was the son of Shem and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام. The Hebrew word for Assyria is Asshur. One of the great empires in history was Assyria. Assyria is rooted in Asshur when referred to in the Old Testament.
Lud was the son of Shem and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام Lydia was once the name of the region that now forms part of Western Turkey. Lud was the ancestor of the people of Lydia or the Lydians.
Rayan Ibn Waleed the Egyptian King who appointed Prophet Yusuf عليه السلام as a Minister was born in the 7th generation of Lud Ibn Shem.
Aisya bint Mazahim, the wife of Pharoah who took Prophet Musa عليه السلام to her house was born in the 10th generation of Lud Ibn Shem.
Ham – a son of Prophet Noah
Ham was the second son of Prophet Noah عليه السلام who was blessed with four sons whom he named Cush, Mizraim, Phut, and Canaan. He migrated to South Asia and died in present-day Pakistan. According to many Islamic scholars, Ham was a Prophet of Allah.
Cush was the son of Ham and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلامThe word Cush is the Hebrew word for Old Ethiopia. The word Chusites is used to refer to Ethiopians to this date as well.

Mizraim was the son of Ham and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام The Hebrew word for Egypt is Mizraim
Phut was the son of Ham and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام The Hebrew name of Libya is Phut. There was also a river Phut in Libya.
Canaan was the son of Ham and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام It is believed that Canaan settled into the regions which now form modern Israel and Jordan.
Before ending the sons of Ham, let’s just recall that Nimrood was also one of the descendants of Ham.
Japeth – a son of Prophet Noah
Japheth was the third son of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام and he had 6 sons. We have given details about all of them below. According to many Islamic scholars, Japeth was a Prophet of Allah.
Gomer was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام. Flavius Josephus who is a Jewish historian is of the view that Geometries were often called Galatians or Gauls and in the New Testament records the Turkey name as Galatia. So, Gomer must have resided there.
There is evidence that supports that they must have migrated toward France and Spain and that is why France was named Gaul in the past. Moreover, to date, people do call North-west Spain Galicia. Also, it is stated that some descendants of Gomer migrated toward Wales.
The Welsh Historian Davis says that they reached the Isle of Britain after 300 years of the flood. The Welsh language thereby is also known as Gomeraeg.
The sons of Gomer were named ‘Ashkenaz, Riphath, and Togarmah’. They also migrated and formed regions. The Armenians are descendent of Togarmah and Ashkenaz. Turkey is likely to have derived its name from Togarmah. The Hebrew word for Germany is Ashkenaz.
Magog was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام. Josephus is of the view that Magogites were called Scythians by the Greeks. Britannica Encyclopedia reveals that the historic name of certain parts of now Romania and Ukraine was Scythia.
Madai was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام Madai is known to be the great ancestor of people belonging to the region which now forms Iran. The Medes were connected with Persians and later also settled in India.
Javan was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام The Hebrew word for Greece is Javan. Thereby we can confidentially say that Javan settled in Greece.
Meshech was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Prophet Noah عليه السلام For those who do not know, the historic name of Moscow was Meshesch.
Tubal was the son of Japheth and the grandson of Hazrat Noah عليه السلام Tubal is still known as the name of the capital of the modern city of Georgia.

Prophet Noah عليه السلام died in 1998 BC at the age of 950 years in present-day Jordan where his grave or tomb is still located.
