A young Saudi man recently shared his unusual life story, which started with a baby swap over 20 years ago. He lived with a Turkish family for four years before he was reunited with his real family.
In 2003, Yaqoub Al Manjam was accidentally switched at birth with a Turkish baby named Ali in a hospital in Najran, a city in southwestern Saudi Arabia. The mistake happened because both babies were born just ten minutes apart.
The Turkish mother noticed differences in the child’s appearance after she returned to Turkey. Eventually, her family went back to Saudi Arabia and had DNA tests done in Riyadh.
The tests showed that their child had been switched with a Saudi baby. Soon after, both children were reunited with their biological families.
In a recent online video, Yaqoub explained that the Turkish family did not immediately tell him the truth. Instead, they slowly introduced him to his Saudi family, first presenting them as family friends.
“They introduced me to my Saudi family as if they were friends. Afterwards, they told me they were my family,” he said.
