Jawazat levies SR 9,600 fee on domestic worker visa

The HRSD Ministry has imposed a fee of SR 9,600/annum on domestic workers such as housemaids, house drivers, etc starting from May 22, 2022.

Why did Jawazat apply this fee?

Since the Maktab Amal fee is increased to SR 9,600, many self-employed expats have changed their Iqama to house drivers as there is no fee on its Iqama renewal.

In order to counter this ill practice, the Saudi Government has imposed SR 9,600 fees on employers who hire domestic workers excessively.

Who will pay the fee?

The fee of SR 9,600/annum for each domestic worker is to be paid by

  • Saudi employer if he employs more than 4 domestic workers.
  • Expat employer if he employs more than 2 domestic workers.

There is no fee if an expat hires up to 2 domestic workers or a Saudi hires up to 4 workers.

Moreover, workers hired to give medical care to a family member or to take care of people with special needs will be exempted from the payment.

SR 9,600 is imposed in phases

The fee of SR 9,600/domestic worker will be levied in 2 phases.

  • Starting from May 22, 2022, the levy will be applied to newly hired domestic workers.
  • Starting from May 11, 2023, the levy will be applied to new and existing domestic workers.
