If you want to perform Itikaf during Ramadan in Makkah or Madina in 2023, you can do online registration. Here is the process;
Requirements
Itikaf starts on the 20th of Ramadan and ends after the Isha prayer on sighting the Eid-Ul-Fitr moon. Here are the requirements for Itikaf Registration;
- Minimum Age: 18 years.
- A valid Iqama / Visit Visa / Umrah Visa.
- Digital copy of Iqama/passport.
- Vaccine Status: Immune.

Itikaf registration in Makkah
In order to do Itikaf registration for Makkah in 2023, follow this process;
- Open: https://eservice.gph.gov.sa/visit/home.aspx
- Step 1: Click on “تسجيل دخول“.
- Step 2: Select the English language.
- Step 3: Enter your Iqama number.
- Step 4: Approve the Nafath access.
- Step 5: Find “نظام اإلعتكاف” from the given options and click on “الدخول للخدمة“.
- Step 6: Click on the menu option and select “طلب تسجيل إعتكاف“.
- Step 7: Agree to the terms and conditions.
- Step 8: Enter your Iqama details and upload your Iqama copy.
- Step 9: Click on the “حفظ” button.
You will immediately receive a message that your Itikaf registration application has been received successfully. You will be informed if the application is accepted.
Check Itikaf Registration Status
After submitting the application, you can always check if your Itikaf registration application has been accepted. In order to do that;
- Open: https://eservice.gph.gov.sa/visit/home.aspx
- Login to your account.
- Select “نظام اإلعتكاف” from the home screen.
- Click on “لإستعلام عن الطلب” from the given options.
- Enter your Iqama number and application number.
If a locker number رقم الخزانة has been assigned to your application, it means that your Itikaf application has been accepted.
Itikaf registration in Madinah
Madinah Itikaf registration will start soon through Za’eroon App which can be downloaded from;
- Select your Language.
- Click on “My Services” from the bottom.
- Click on “Itikaf Service“.
- Select “Create New“.
- Fill in the details and click on “Sign up“.
- Click on “My Services” from the bottom.
- Click On “Itikaf Service“.
- ID Type: Iqama.
- Enter your date of birth (Hijri).
- Finally, click on “Send“.
That’s it, your request for Itikaf registration in Madina has been submitted successfully. In order to check your Itikaf permit;
- Click on the “Service”.
- Select “I’tikaf Service.
Guideline to Perform Itikaf
Here are a set of guidelines that you should follow while performing Itikaf in Masjid al-Haram in Makkah.
Essential Packing Items
5 sets of clothes are enough since the Itikaf will be lasting for 9 to 10 days. For the ladies, it is best to carry an extra hijab and abaya with you.
- Pack your hand wipes, oud, deodorant, tissue, comb, extra pair of glasses, toothbrush, and toothpaste.
- Charger for your cell phone but be sure not to be on your phone during Itikaf.
- Prayer mat
- Sleeping equipment such as blankets, inflatable pillows, etc.
It is best to have a sleeping bag that can be stuffed with all your stuff for safety in order to be carried easily to a prayer spot.
Where to eat?
Iftar will not be a problem as it is served. If you are outside, the management distributes small Iftar packs containing dates, juice, water, croissant, etc. which will be enough to last you until the end of Taraweeh.
For suhoor and dinner, you can go to the Hilton towers located right across from you. There are some fast food outlets where you can purchase your food.
How to survive crowds?
- On Fridays do not under any circumstances leave the mosque prior to the Friday prayers.
- Moreover, on the 29th night during the Khatamul Quran or the finishing of the Quran, you will not be allowed to enter the mosque if you leave for any reason whatsoever.
