It is the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ to keep the beard in Islam but what if your wife wants you to shave it?
- Prophet Muhammad said: Cut the mustaches short and leave the beard (as it is). – Sahih al-Bukhari 5893
Is shaving the beard a sin?
All four schools of thought including Imam Abu Hanifa, Imam Malik, Imam al-Shafi, and Imam Ibn Hanbal have a consensus that shaving the beard is a sin.
The only difference they have is about the size of the beard. Some believe that it should be at least one fist length while others believe it cannot be cut.
People who shave their beards would be accountable for their deeds on the day of judgment. – Sheikh Assim Al Hakeem
What if your wife asks to shave your beard?
If your wife asks to shave your beard, Muslims should understand that men and women are accountable for their actions and are free in stepping towards a sunnah.
No one, be it parents, spouse, or siblings, can prevent them from following the practices that have been recommended by the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
Once again, every individual would be accountable for his deeds on the Day of Judgement in front of Allah.
