A 26-year-old Indian is held for displaying the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ placard in Masjid-al-Haram 🕋, Makkah.
Viral Picture
Raza Kadri is an active supporter of the Indian political party congress who came to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. He took a placard Masjid-al-Haram with the political slogan ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ and took a picture in front of the Holy Kaaba.
He posted the picture on social media which went viral. People started raising questions about his actions of mixing religion with politics.
Saudi authorities in action
The Saudi authorities also took immediate action and he was held from his hotel in Makkah within 2 days of posting that picture.
Saudi law does not allow anyone to put on banners and slogans during the Hajj and Umrah as they are in Makah.
Several Indians have been detained
This is not the first time that an unaware person has been detained. There are multiple Indians who have landed in deep trouble for displaying flags/placards in Gulf Countries.
According to the Indian Consulate, they are making awareness to their people not to display flags or showcase any affection.
The number of Indians detained for such acts is increasing, as they are not aware of the laws of Saudi Arabia.
What would be the punishment?
Although we are not sure about it, he is most likely to be released after teaching him a lesson that he needs to respect the Holy sites of Makkah and Madina by not associating them with any kind of political activity.
