According to Islam, pious Muslim men would get married to hoors in Jannah. How many hoors and what would they look like?
What is the meaning of Hoor?
Hoors are the wives of Muslim men in Jannah. Allah has created and kept them for Muslim men in a way that no man or Jinn has ever touched them. Subhan Allah! They are pious women waiting for their husbands.
In them are women limiting [their] glances, untouched before them by man or jinni – Al-Rahman 55:56
How many hoors in Jannah?
According to a Hadith, every Muslim man would be provided with 72 hoors in Jannah. While the concept of Hoors is given in the Holy Quran and Hadith several times, the number 72 is available in a weak Hadith.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “There is no one whom Allah will admit to Paradise but Allah will marry him to seventy-two wives, two from houris and seventy from his inheritance from the people of Hell, all of whom will have desirable front passages and he will have a male member that never becomes flaccid (i.e., soft and limp) – Sunan Ibn Majah 4337
Hoors will have big dark Eyes
Allah praises the beauty of Hoors with their big dark eyes in the Holy Quran. You can imagine if Allah is praising it, how beautiful that eye would be.
- Thus (it will happen,) and We will marry them with houris having big dark eyes. – Ad-Dukhan 44:54
- And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious) – Al Waqia 56:22
Hoors are transparent
Allah has made hoors so transparent that their bone marrow can be seen from their bodies. As I said earlier, the human brain cannot even imagine that beauty.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Everyone will have two wives from the houris, (who will be so beautiful, pure and transparent that) the marrow of the bones of their legs will be seen through the bones and the flesh.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 3254
And if a houri from Paradise appeared to the people of the earth, she would fill the space between Heaven and the Earth with light and pleasant scent and her head cover is better than the world and whatever is in it.” – Sahih al-Bukhari 2796
Love and Care
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whenever a woman harms her husband in this world (that is without any due right), his wife among the (Houris in Jannah) says: ‘You must not harm him. May Allah destroy you! He is only a passing guest with you and is about to leave you to come to us“. – Riyad as-Salihin 287
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Whoever restrains his anger when he is able to enforce it, Allah will call him before all of creation on the Day of Resurrection, and will give him his choice of any houri that he wants.” Sunan Ibn Majah 4186
Names of Hoors of Jannah
Despite the fact that 72 hoors are promised with Muslim men as per Islam, we do not find their names in the Islamic scripture. The only names available are;
