It is very important to get the police clearance certificate (PCC) from Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam before you leave Saudi Arabia on a final exit in 2020. In this article, we have explained in detailed the validity period of a PCC issued by Saudi Arabia and the procedure to get it.
Why do we need a Police Clearance Certificate from Saudi Arabia?
Generally, you don’t need a PCC if you are planning to stay in your home country for the rest of your life. However, if your plan is to go to a European country, the USA, or Australia for immigration or work, they need a PCC from all the countries you have lived in your life which obviously includes Saudi Arabia.
Even if you are not planning to immigrate to any of these countries as of 2020, I would strongly recommend you take a police clearance certificate from Saudi Arabia before your final exit as you never know about the future.
How to get the PCC from your home country?
If you have already left Saudi Arabia on a final exit, you need to follow a different procedure to get a police clearance certificate from Saudi Arabia. Recommended: How to get a police clearance certificate from Home Country?
How to get police clearance in Saudi Arabia?
Letter of Endorsement
The first step to get a police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia is to apply for a letter of endorsement to your embassy. The standard form of application for a letter of endorsement is available in embassies of all the countries.
You will have to fill the application form, pay the fee, attach copies of your Iqama and submit it your embassy. Generally, it takes around one week to process this letter, however, the time of processing varies from embassy to embassy.
The embassy sometimes asks to share evidence of employment in Saudi Arabia (i.e. employment contract or letter of introduction from the employer) and evidence for why you need the PCC (i.e. immigration letter from respective country, etc.).
Better to go with these printouts since the shops around the embassy charge a killing. A procedure to get a Letter of Endorsement from the Pakistan Embassy is explained in this link.
Attest the letter of endorsement from the MOFA
After receiving the letter of endorsement from your embassy, the next step in the process to get a police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia is to Attest the letter of endorsement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Make sure you visit there with a copy of your passport and Iqama.
You will receive a form there which have to fill and submit back to the MOFA along with a letter of endorsement of a copy of your documents. Here you need to pay a fee of SR 100/-.
There is no need to translate the letter of endorsement issued to you by your Embassy in Arabic. MOFA will attest it without translation.
The biggest hassle to get a police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia in 2020 is the MOFA attestation due to a huge backlog from the previous days. I went there at 6:30 AM, stood in the queue for 2.5 hours, got a token number of around 160 and left (as we were advised by the guards to leave due to the max limit of 120-130 attestations per day).
The next day, those who had a token from the previous day were prioritized and I was given a token number of about 30. It was a one hour wait from here.
Requirements for the police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia
There are no special requirements for the police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia apart from the letter of endorsement duly attested by the MOFA. However, to be on the safe side, it is better to take the following documents along with you to the police station;
- Original Iqama of all the applicants and their copies
- Copies of passports for all applicants
- Original Letter of Endorsement issued by the embassy and duly attested by the MOFA.
Visiting the Police Station
Once the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has attested your letter, the next step in the process to get a police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia is to go along with the whole set of documents to the police station in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam. Make sure your fingerprints scanning has already been done. You can check it online if your fingerprints scanning is done properly from this link.
A police officer will tell you about the expected date of getting the PCC. Each and every applicant applying for the police clearance certificate in Saudi Arabia needs to visit Police Station situated in Riyadh, Jeddah or Dammam.

The collection of the Police Clearance Certificate
The Department of Criminal Evidence is not taking fingerprints nowadays since they have all records – but they are giving 10 days' time to take your certificate. Advice for all the people planning to take this certificate it is better to visit them earlier instead of the eleventh hour.
In case of emergency exit Department of Criminal Evidence can issue PCC immediately if you show the ticket.
Attest the Police Clearance Certificate from the MOFA, Saudi Arabia
After collecting the Police Clearance Certificate from Saudi Arabia, better to translate it in English which will help you in your future. Make sure you Attest Documents from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs one more time.
It is important to mention here that if you don’t attest your police clearance certificate from MOFA, it will not be treated as a valid document anywhere in the world.
What is the validity period of the Police Clearance Certificate issued by Saudi Arabia?
Many people are worried about the validity period of the police clearance certificate issued by Saudi Arabia. They want to know if the certificate will remain valid after 3 or 5 years when they are planning to leave their home country for some other country.
With the police clearance certificate, the country where you are planning to migrate wants to confirm that you don’t have a criminal record in any of the countries you have lived in.
It is better to take the PCC in the last 2 months of your stay in the Kingdom. In this way, the next government can reconcile the dates when you left the country with the police clearance certificate and there will be no issue.
However, if you take the PCC one year before you leave the country, they will be asking you to provide another certificate for the remainder of the period you stayed here. In other words, the validity period of the police clearance certificate issued from Saudi Arabia is unlimited.
