In 2018, a female gym released promotional videos on social media where women could be seen working out. It created so much social pressure that authorities had to shut down the gym.

In the video, the woman was dancing and kickboxing. When the issue spread to social media, the sports Minister of that time Mr. Turki Al Shaikh tweeted that the fitness center’s license shall be withdrawn.
He has asked the authorities to take up action against those who are responsible for the video.
How Saudi Arabia has evolved
Watching these videos today, you don’t see any need to shut down the gym as there is nothing indecent there. However, back in 2018 when Saudi Arabia was still in transition from conservatism to modernism, these videos were labeled as vulgar.
