Expats living in Saudi Arabia are keen to know if they can apply for a family visit visa for their sisters, brothers, mother, father, wife, children or sister-in-law in 2019. To address, the questions related to this subject, we have decided to write a separate article on the topic.
Before we start discussing if it is allowed to apply for a family visit visa for a sister or brother in Saudi Arabia, I want to state the eligibility criteria. The only eligibility criteria to apply for a family visit visa is having a suitable iqama profession.
Who is entitled to get a Family Visit Visa?
Now coming back to the question if you can apply for a family visit visa for your brother or sister in Saudi Arabia, let me clarify that in normal circumstances the family visit visa of Saudi Arabia can be applied for the following 6 family members;
- Father in Law
- Mother in Law
We have also been reported about some cases where an unmarried sister working in the government sector has got a family visit visa for her brother. However, we need to understand that these are few exceptions and these things do not apply to the population at large.
Why can’t we apply for a family visit visa for a sister, brother or sister-in-law?
I think the possible reason why we cannot apply for a family visit visa for our brothers, sisters, and sister-in-law in Saudi Arabia is due to Non-Mahram relations. For example, my brother is a Non-Mahram relation to my wife and similarly, my sister-in-law is a Non-Mahram to me.
Is there any alternative?
We have already established the fact that you cannot bring your brother or sister on a family visit visa in Saudi Arabia, but is there any alternative available? Yes, there are two alternatives.
If your brother or sister is a national of any of those nationalities which are entitled to get an online tourist visa in Saudi Arabia, you can easily apply for it online and the visa will be processed within a few minutes. In 2019, it is much easier to get a multiple entry one-year tourist visa of Saudi Arabia for your brother or sister rather than going through the lengthy process of applying for a family visit visa.
However, in case your brother or sister is not among the nationalities which are entitled to get a tourist visa in Saudi Arabia, they can apply for an Umrah visa (if they are Muslims). An Umrah visa is valid for a period of 30 days and now you can travel without any restrictions to anywhere in Saudi Arabia on an Umrah visa.
