However, according to Indian law, an NRI who has lived outside India for more than one year is allowed to carry the following quantities of gold;

  • Indian female is allowed to carry gold jewelry worth INR 100,000 which translates into around SR 5,300. Taking into account today's rate of gold, one Indian woman can carry around 33 grams of 21K gold jewelry to India from Saudi Arabia.
  • Indian men are allowed to carry gold jewelry worth INR 50,000 which translates into around SR 2,650. Taking into account today's rate of gold, one Indian man can carry around 33 grams of 21K gold jewelry to India from Saudi Arabia.

Can children carry gold in flight?

Yes, your children are also allowed to carry gold jewelry from Saudi Arabia to India with the same limits and restrictions as stated above which means that your child should have lived outside India for more than one year. In case you are a family of a couple and 2 boys and 1 daughter, you can carry gold jewelry worth INR 350,000.

Can we carry gold coins and bars to India?

Although Saudi Arabia allows you to carry gold coins and bars within the limit of SR 60,000 per family, it is not allowed by the authorities in India. According to Indian law, you can only carry gold jewelry, not gold coins or bars. As we have already stated above about Saudi laws that you are allowed to carry cash up to a limit of SR 60,000 per family from Saudi Arabia to India or any other country. However, it is also important to understand Indian law regarding this matter.

According to Indian law, you can carry any amount of money from Saudi Arabia or any other country to India. However, if the value of the traveler's cheque exceeds $10,000 or the value of Saudi Riyals or foreign currency exceeds $5,000, you are required to disclose it to the customs authorities.
