Hazrat Maryam – Mary the mother of Jesus was born in Jerusalem, Palestine. The church located there is said to be built where Hannah, her mother, gave her birth. The church which is named as St. Anne Church is located just near the famous Lion Gate of the old city in the Muslim quarter.

The Parents of Hazrat Maryam – Mary the mother of Jesus A.S.
Hannah bint Faqudh and Imran ibn Mathan were a pious couple. They used to fulfill Allah’s commandments and thereby held high status. They, however, were not blessed with any child until they reached their old age.
Yet, when she once sat under the shade of a tree, she saw a bird feeding her baby and so felt that she had not been deprived of a great blessing. She thereby started to cry and prayed to God for the blessing. She also asked Allah if she would be blessed with a child, she would devote it to the services of Bayt Al Maqdis.
Allah did not turn down her prayers and soon she got pregnant, her husband, however, died before the birth of the child. A baby girl was born to her. Hannah raised the orphan child with great devotion and care.
Her mother devoted Hazrat Maryam – Mary the mother of Jesus to Allah
What troubled Hannah was that she had a baby girl and soon she had to devote her towards services of Bayt Al Maqdis, yet per traditions, boys were offered for such a cause.
But when she delivered her, she said, “My Lord, I have delivered a female.” And Allah was most knowing of what she delivered, “And the male is not like the female. And I have named her Mary, and I seek refuge for her in You and [for] her descendants from Satan, the expelled [from the mercy of Allah ].” [Al Quran 3:36]
When Maryam become of age and the matter was raised if she was allowed to provide services to the Holy place. Many people wanted to hold her guardianship, yet her Uncle named Zakariyya (may Allah be pleased with him) was given the honor who was the custodian of the Masjid al Aqsa.
The Chamber of Maryam:
In the Masjid al Aqsa, Hazrat Maryam – Mary the mother of Jesus was given a separate and private chamber so that she could undergo worship there. A small room that is just located in the southeast of the Masjid is said to be the chamber of Maryam. However, no authentic evidence is there to support it.
She would remain in her chamber and would dedicatedly provide her services and remain to engage in the worship of Allah Almighty. Zakariyya (upon him be peace), her guardian would on and off hold visits at the chamber so that he could know if Maryam was fine and if she needed something.
Hazrat Zakariya was surprised to see fruits in her chamber
To his surprise, on his every visit Maryam would be equipped with fruits that were not available as per season. For instance, she would have mangoes in winters! This has been mentioned in the Quran (3:37) that upon inquiring that who provided Maryam with fruits, Maryam would reply that it is Allah who blessed Maryam. Allah provides them who He wants and give them in abundance.

It is said that the angel in the appearance of a man came towards her. Maryam exclaimed that she seeks refugee from him upon which he disclosed that he has bought a message from Allah towards her.
He then told that Allah will bless you with a pure child. On this Maryam exclaimed that how can she have a child when she has not been even touched by a man, she is a virgin and how can a virgin give birth?
