900 engineers caught in Saudi Arabia due to fake degrees

According to the Arabic daily report, the Saudi Council of Engineers (SCE) has confiscated engineering diplomas in large number. The details reveal that there were 700 fake technicians and 200 engineers in different specialties, who were caught.

The spokesman at the SCE, Abdulnasser Al-Abdulatif, told that the council is duty bound to counter check the validity and the authenticity of the diplomas and the certificates of those who wish to be the part of the council.

Every engineer needs to be registered with SCE

He also told that according to the SCE regulation, those who wish to carry a diploma that has been verified by the council shall first file an application with the council. The council shall double check the authenticity of the diploma and then the applicant shall be able to practice the profession.

However, those who do not do so shall be categorized as violators and be fined. The SCE also states that all the applicants shall be carrying a degree which is certified from a credible University of Saudi Arabia or equivalent from outside KSA. 2000 Engineering Certificates have been confiscated so far

The council, so far, has been able to confiscate 2,062 fake certificates since it has been set up. Such diplomas were either fake or were issued by unaccredited institutions. Many times visa agents back in home countries produce this kind of diplomas to get through the process of visa attestation.

Fake degree holders will be fined up to SR 1 million

The council has clearly mentioned that if anyone caught practicing the engineering profession while holding a fake degree shall be subject to fine worth SR 1 million and shall be banned from practicing the profession in Saudi Arabia.
