Zakat is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is compulsory for every Muslim who is in a stable financial condition. It is a form of charity that is given to the needy and poor people. The main objective to give zakat is to help the society. By giving zakat a balance is maintained in the society.
It helps the poor people to attain something from wealthy people. As it is said in Islam, give zakat, it purifies your wealth. It never causes any decrease in your wealth. Muslims who gives Zakat gets a marvelous reward from Allah in this world and hereafter.
Zakat cannot be given to everybody, there are some specific people to whom zakat is paid. There are 8 kinds of people to whom Zakat can be paid. There are also some kinds of people to whom Zakat cannot be paid.
We have already discussed the 8 kinds of people to whom Zakat can be paid. Today we shall only talk about those people to whom Zakat cannot be paid. It is important to know this to clarify any confusion you might have in your mind.
1-Parents, grandparents, children, and husband-wife: You can neither pay your zakat to your parents or grandparents or one’s children or grandchildren. Nor a husband and wife can pay their zakat to each other.
2-Non-Muslims: Zakat cannot be given to non-Muslims. You can only pay Nafl Sadaqah to non-Muslims.
3-Dead person: Your zakat cannot be used to pay any dead person’s debt nor you can buy kafn for a deceased person.
4-Institutions and organizations that do not give your zakat to the right person: You should avoid giving your zakat to such institutes and organizations who instead of giving your zakat to the right person, utilize it for construction.
5-Wakf: Zakat cannot be utilized to purchase land or books for public utility and made wakf.
Mentioned above are the people to whom you can give your Zakat and to whom you should not give Zakat. It is better for you to make some inquiry before paying off your Zakat.
If you give your Zakat without inquiry and subsequently it is given to a wealthy person or to a person who is not eligible for Zakat you will have to pay it again. The Zakat given in this way will not release you from your responsibility of paying Zakat to the people actually deserve it.
