Idris Elba’s next Hollywood movie will be filmed in Saudi Arabia

The title just seems interesting to you if you are a Saudi. People around the world love to watch Hollywood movies and I think this will the first time the World will witness an international movie made in Saudi Arabia.  

Idris Elba, a British actor announced his plans for making his next film in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. He announced this in a speech he made at the Kingdom’s “Quality of Life Program” that aims to promote entertainment, health and sports and education by spending 50 billion Riyals by 2020.  

Changes like cinema opening and allowing families to attend sports events fall under the umbrella of the Quality of Life initiatives. The famous British actor attended this event with famous American actress Katie Holmes and French footballer Thierry Henry.

The Hollywood actor and director Idris Elba said it made sense on an economic model. Saudi Arabia gave me an opportunity to make my film here and I will definitely come here, he added.

The famous Idris Elba shot to fame for his performance on American television series ‘The Wires’ and the British television series ‘Luther’.

Later the famous actor playing a lead role in the biopic film Mandela: Long Walk to the Freedom which was based on the story of former South African Nelson Mandela's life and struggles against apartheid.

Idris Elba is also familiar to us for his roles in Star Trek, Pacific Rim, and The Beast of No nations. He was also listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. This very year he started his directing career with film, Yardie.

Saudi Arabia is a  beautiful and cultural land and now it has got an awesome opportunity to spread its culture worldwide through filmmaking. However, improving entertainment is also a major point of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 led by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman.

In April 2018, cinema theaters were opened in the Kingdom after a ban of 35 years with the screening of Marvels Superhero film Black Panther.

In 2016, the establishment of the Kingdom’s General Entertainment Authority was headed by Amr Al- Madani to enhance the cultural and entertainment sector within the Gulf country.

Besides this, the Saudi public Investment fund has also launched a new entertainment enterprise with an initial capitalization of $2.67 billion.

Along with the increase in Entertainment opportunity, there are several other changes that occurred in the Kingdom under the Vision 2030.

Women are now participating in government and private sectors jobs, there is an increase in several new jobs, and the Kingdom has opened its door for tourists with an aim to improve the Kingdom’s economy.

There is no doubt that it is just the beginning of giving others an opportunity to explore hidden gems of Saudi Arabia. This kind of initiatives will bring foreign direct investment into the country.
