What is the purpose of sub-dials on a Wrist Watch?

Have you ever wondered what the sub-dials on your wristwatch are for? A common person can only understand the second and minutes indicating sub-dials. But many wrist watches have additional sub-dials for various purposes.

Let us explore what the sub-dials on wristwatch are meant for and what do they indicate. One may feel that few sub-dials have no meaning at all. They are merely made for fashion purpose.

They are only there to make your wrist watch look attractive! Some sub-dials are there to make the watch all classy and show-full! Some useless sub-dials are for catching attraction and make he watch look impressive.

In some wristwatches, there are fake sub-dials that are merely glued, while some watches have fake sub-dials that are inappropriate: their reading and marking are incorrect. 

Yet there are some sub-dials that hold meaning. They, in fact, are quite handy! They can indicate useful data and information.

Some sub-dials are there to indicate what day of the week it is, what is the current month the current date and even they can specify the lunar dates. Some sub-dials shall indicate day and night as well.

A sweep hand is used to indicate seconds while a sub-dial to register minutes in a reliable chronograph wristwatch. A chronograph is one of the types of watch that functions as a stopwatch along with a display watch. 

In a basic type of chronograph watch a sweep second hand is built that can be started, stopped, and returned to zero by successive pressure on the stem. An hour register is also added in some wristwatches to time the long events.

Also, a good and original quartz modeled wristwatch uses a sub-dial to indicate tenth of a second!  A sub-dial with markings 20, 40 and 60 shall be revealing seconds or minutes while the markings 10, 20 and 30 are meant to register 30-minutes for a stopwatch. A 3, 6, 9 and 12 markings are for indicating hours!
