The stories of Prophets of Islam Allah had sent down a total of 124,000 Prophets for the guidance of mankind. These prophets were not sent down at one time, rather were sent down in different time periods. The very first Prophet being Adam (may Allah be pleased with him) and the last being Muhammad (PBUH).
The source of guidance for all the Muslims is Quran (the Holy Book revealed to the last Prophet) and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). Evidence from both sources reveals the name of few Prophets.
Also, both sources have revealed interesting stories of some of the Prophets. Here we will share some incidents and authentic stories of Hazrat Ayub A.S.
The Prophet Hazrat Ayub A.S. was blessed with health, wealth, and family. Yet Allah wanted to test his faith and eventually all was taken.
His wealth vanished, he lost his family and he got terribly sick which lasted for 18 long years. He got involved in a disease where all his body got covered with sores. Yet he had such a strong faith in Allah that he did not become hopeless.
The name and short story of Hazrat Ayub A.S. have been cited in the Holy Quran as well. The wife of Hazrat Ayub was from the children of Hazrat Yaqoob A.S.
It is also important to mention here that his illness did not cause worms to emerge from his body, as some said, nor did his flesh fall off of his body as some claim. All of that is repulsive and does not occur to Hazrat Ayub A.S.
He continued praying to Allah. It was his patience and faith that Allah got pleased with him. He was asked to strike the land with his foot, upon doing so a fountain of water emerged.
The miraculous water helped him heal all his sores and soon his health was retained. Indeed, he got the reward for keeping a strong faith in Allah in both good and bad times.
When the wife of Hazrat Ayub A.S. saw him, she could not recognize him with his youthful appearance. She asked him considering a stranger, “Have you seen the Prophet of God, the one who is inflicted with illness?
You resemble him greatly.” Prophet Ayub A.S told her, “It is I”. Then she recognized her husband.
Hazrat Ayub passed away at the age of 93 years. The story of Hazrat Ayub A.S. gives us a lesson that we should be thankful to the Almighty in every condition. If we show patience and be thankful to Allah, he will give us much more than what we deserve.
The shrine or tomb of Hazrat Ayub A.S. is situated in Hilla, Babil, Iraq. We have shared a couple of images of the shrine above.
