The stories of Prophets of Islam Allah had sent down a total of 124,000 Prophets for the guidance of mankind. These prophets were not sent down at one time, rather were sent down in different time periods. The very first Prophet being Adam (may Allah be pleased with him) and the last being Muhammad (PBUH).
The source of guidance for all the Muslims is Quran (the Holy Book revealed to the last Prophet) and Sunnah of the Prophet (PBUH). Evidence from both sources reveals the name of few Prophets.
Also, both sources have revealed interesting stories of some of the Prophets. Here we will share some incidents and authentic stories of Hazrat Ismail A.S.
Later on, Nimrod called him in his palace and Hazrat Ibrahim preached him about Islam and Allah. After marrying Hajra (May Allah be pleased with her), Hazrat Ibrahim was blessed with a son from her.
They named him Ismail. The Muslims all around the world perform Udhya on 10th of Dhul Hijja following the Sunnah of Hazrat Ismail A.S. and Hazrat Ibrahim A.S.
The family moved to a valley of Arabia to start a new life. When they reached a hilly area surrounded and enclosed by mountains (Makkah), Allah ordered Hazrat Ibrahim to leave his wife Hazrat Hajra and Hazrat Ismail in this area and leave.
Soon he departed and prayed to Allah to protect his wife and son who were alone in the valley. The food and water storage started to become insufficient. It worried Hazrat Hajra who was alone with an infant.
She began to look for food. She went on top of the Mount Safa but was helpless. She then went to the other side of the valley and went on top of Mount Marwa.
She searched for help, for food, for water but found none. Helpless, she started running back and forth between Mount Safa and Mount Marwa seven times.
Allah liked the efforts Hazrat Hajra made for her infant son that he has made it compulsory for everyone performing Hajj or Umrah to imitate this act called “Sa’ee”.
When she was tired of making these trips, she sat down on the Mount Marwa gazing upon the skies. Only Allah could save her son now but if it is Allah’s will to let them die like this, she was ready to accept it.
She was amazed by what she saw some moments after that. Hazrat Ismail rubbed the ground with his heels and on the very spot a spring of pure and fresh water gushed out.
The spring of water with the heels of an infant in the barren mountains of Makkah was not less than a miracle. When she saw that the water was flowing down, she said “ZamZam” the Hebrew word which means “Stop”.
The water still flows from the very spot and is known as Zamzam well. When Hazrat Ibrahim got the permission from Allah to come back to see Hazrat Ismail and Hazrat Hajrah, he was amazed by the new outlook of the valley.
The abundant water had made it fertile. Animals and caravans now visited the valley making it prosperous.
