9 Facts about Jabal-e-Thawr – where spider spun a web

1-Jabal-e-Thawr or Mount Thawr is that mountain which contains the cave, where the Prophet (Peace be Upon Him) and Abu Bakr (PBUH) stayed there as a refugee for about three days and nights. They left Makkah and migrated towards Madina.

2-When the Prophet (PBUH) and Abu Bakr R.A reached the cave on Jabal-e-Thawr, Hazrat Abu Bakr first cleared the place. They found few holes and filled them with pieces of cloth. They thus stayed in the cave where Prophet (PBUH) slept on the lap of Abu Bakr (PBUH).[irp]

3-When the Prophet was sleeping, something hurt on the foot of Hazrat Abu Bakr R.A, but he did not move, not even a little bit. Hazrat Abu Bakr felt intense pain but controlled himself as his movement might have awakened the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him).

The Prophet (PBUH) woke up and noticed that Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was in pain. He applied his saliva to the injury which worked like a magic and poof! It turned as if nothing had happened.

4-For three consecutive nights, the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Abu Bakr (PBUH) stayed in the cave hiding from everyone.

5-Abdullah, who is the son of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed his nights near to the cave and returned to Makkah early in the morning. He collected information about the Quraish activities.

Each night went back to Mount Thawr to inform the Prophet (PBUH) and his father Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). However, Quraish still had no clue about them.

6-A slave of Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) cropped his goats near the cave so both could drink fresh milk.

7-When they were inside the cave, Allah (the most merciful) sent a spider to spin the web across the entrance of the cave and also ordered two doves that made a nest and lay eggs to show that no one went inside.

8-In the meantime, Quraish scoured the area of Makkah where the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and Hazrat Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) were hiding.

When the Quraish came searching for them close to the cave, Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was stressed about the Prophet’s (peace and blessings of Allah be on him) safety and well-being.

However, The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) comforted him that Allah is with them.

9-Therefore, after seeing the spider web and dove nest, the Quraish commented that no one could possibly have entered the cave and turned back. After three days, when the Quraish ended the search and disappeared, they left the cave and moved towards Madina.
