The NEOM project is a mega project, one of its own kinds. The project aims at creating a special zone. The zone would enable its people to lead an ideal life: they would be served there with great facilities. Transport, education, health facilities, and houses: in short everything at the zone would be according to international standards.
The basic concept is to be innovative. Capable people around the world are being called upon to help build the special zone. The technology-based zone is an outcome of vision 2030, which aims at building Saudi Arabia economically stronger and socially prosperous.[irp]
The project would be fruitful for the Saudi economy. The world is having eyes on the project as it is a unique one. It is predicted that it would be a great victory for Saudi economy if the project reaps its desired goals.
The difference among the NEOM mega city and any other city was illustrated by King Salman himself. He showed the audience two cell phones, one a smartphone and another one a simple mobile. He told that as a smartphone is technologically advance than an ordinary mobile, so would be NEOM.
Masayoshi Son the Chairman and CEO of Soft Bank was also there. Japan is to invest $100 billion dollars in Saudi Arabia’s megacity project. On talking about the project, the Japanese CEO said that they will create two more Makkah in Saudi Arabia.
When he made the statement, people started to laugh. This is not what he actually meant. The situation became hilarious. Obviously, no one can make two more Makkah in Saudi Arabia. Makkah is a sacred city of the world. No city can match its holiness. No city is as blessed as Makkah.
As a Muslims, we will get offended if someone says that they will create two more Makkah in Saudi Arabia. But the fact that people started to laugh is that it was actually hilarious! The Japanese CEO said this without realizing what blunder he had made; how can Japanese create Makkah in Saudi Arabia? And not 1 but 2!
The Saudi crown prince had to speak up on the matter, laughing himself he urged the people not to be mistaken as the CEO has said something that he didn’t mean. He told that as Makkah is not just a Holy city, it is a country’s most important city. It is country’s focal point.
So what the CEO meant is that two other significant focal points are to be erected in Saudi Arabia. Only if CEO knew what he was saying could be taken on to another level and must have started controversy around the world. King Salman wisely jumped in and cleared out the matter. So guys, don’t believe that Japan is creating 2 Makkah in Saudi Arabia!
