What is the meaning of Miqat?
Miqat means, “a stated place”. Miqats are the areas or locations at which pilgrims wear Ihram, either for Hajj or Umrah. We have given all the 5 miqat map locations or Miqat locations below including the miqat Masjid Dhul Hulifa. Make sure you don't cross these meeqat map locations if intending to perform Hajj or Umrah.
Another important point which I want to mention here that as soon as you cross the Meeqat points wearing Ihram in a proper way, you actually enter into a state of Ihram. You must not forget the things that are Haram for people wearing Ihram.
For the ease of people, we have given the Meeqat boundary map below. We have also explained Makkah to miqat distance in detail below.
1-Dhat Irq Miqat
Dhat Irq Miqat is around 94 kilometers towards the North East of Makkah. This is the miqat from Iran, Iraq and for individuals from the same route. It is the Miqat point used during Hajj on the way from Makkah to Kufa.
This Miqat point has three sections: one is known as “Maslakh”, the second is known as “Qumrah” and the third one is known as “Dhat Irq” (also Zaat Irq). It is better to wear ihram from “Maslakh” but there is no harm if it is worn from the other two sections as well.

Anyone who wants to perform Hajj from Madina should wear Ihram at meeqat from madina. It is not necessary to put on Ihram by going inside the miqat Masjid Dhul Hulifa. It can be worn on the side of the mosque as well.
There is no distinction between the old and new mosque which has been extended so much until today.

This city is 9 km far from Ghadir Khumm, close to the Red Sea. Recently, individuals going from Jeddah to Makkah, wear Ihram at this point. This city was previously known as Mahya'a (vast place).
Later on, it was called so because of being situated in a huge area between Ghadir Khum and the Red Sea.
5-Qarn al-Manazil – Miqat Taif
Qarn al-Manazil is a mountainous spot close to Taif due to which it is also called Miqat Taif. Qarn al-Manazil is situated at around 94 kilometers to the East of Makkah. This is the miqat point to the individuals of Najd and for those entering from that route.

People who come to perform Umrah from Dubai choose the shortest route via Riyadh; hence, it is the Meeqat from Dubai as well.
6-What is the miqat in Makkah for umrah?
People who come to perform Umrah from all around the world have to wear Ihram from any of the 5 Miqat locations stated above. However, for the second time, they often ask about miqat in Makkah for umrah.
Rule: The rule is that they just need to go out of the boundaries of Haram and wear Ihram from there. People who are resident of Makkah can go to the nearest miqat from Makkah to wear Ihram.
6.1-Masjid e Aisha Miqat
People normally go to Masjid e Aisha to wear Ihram for their second Umrah as this Masjid is out of Haram Boundaries.
In other words, you can say that masjid Ayesha Meeqat is for the people living in Makkah. We have also given Masjid Ayesha Meeqat location here.
6.2-Masjid Jaranah Miqat

Al-Hill refers to the area within the boundaries of Miqat, for example, Jeddah, Khulais, al-Janun, and Taneem are all situated within al-Hil. Pilgrims residing in these areas must enter into Ihram before entering the boundaries of Haram.
As a result, people living in Jeddah wear Ihram from their home as their house is the Miqat for Jeddah residents.
8-Miqat in the Air
Pilgrims traveling from all around the world to Makkah to perform Umrah normally cross Miqat in the Air. The miqat location remains the same even when you are traveling by Air. A question might come to your mind when to wear ihram for umrah. We have answered it below.
8.1-Flight with a Non-Islamic Airline
If you are traveling through a Non-Islamic Airline e.g. by British Air to perform Umrah, there will be no facilities to change Ihram during the flight. In this case, it is advisable to wear Ihram before boarding the flight.
However, the Miqat location would be announced around 15 to 20 minutes before the airplane crosses the location so that pilgrims can make a niyyah for Umrah.
8.1-Flight with an Islamic Airline
A flight with an Islamic airline is way more comfortable if you are coming to Saudi Arabia to perform Umrah. There will be several announcements for the location of Miqat. Moreover, the pilgrims would be given a chance to change their Ihram during the flight.
However, I personally do not recommend you to plan to change Ihram during the flight. In order to change Ihram during the flight, you will have to go to the bathroom which is so tiny that there is always a risk that your Ihram would touch something impure. It is always better to wear Ihram from the Airport before boarding the Airplane.
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) had fixed Dhul Hulaifa as the Miqat for the people of Medina; Al-Juhfa for the people of Sham; and Qarn Ul-Manazil for the people of Najd; and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. – Sahih al-Bukhari 1526
