Most of you must have visited Saudi Arabia for Umrah, Hajj or any other purpose once in your lifetime. After landing at the Jeddah airport, you need to take a ride to enter Makkah.
You must have noticed a huge Quran gateway entrance before entering the holy city of Makkah. Those who have not visited the place let me tell you about this beautiful gateway to Makkah.
It is a beautiful gateway and almost all the Muslim residents of Saudi Arabia has seen it.
1-It is known as the Quran Gateway. The Quran Gateway signifies the boundaries of Haram. The area of Haram is the most peaceful area for Muslims.
When Muslims are in the state of Ihram performing Hajj or Umrah, they are not even allowed to kill any animal in this area until the day of 10th of Dhul Hijjah.
2-It is located in Makkah on the Jeddah Makkah Highway and is 27Km away from Masjid-al-Haram. You can easily notice the structure while entering the premises of Makkah from the West.
It is a huge structure and you cannot simply miss it if you are going to Makkah from the side of Jeddah or Madina.
3-The gateway was designed by Dia Aziz Dia and by an Egyptian architect, Samir Elabd in 1979 for an architectural firm IDEA Centers.
4-The structure is a huge open Holy Quran kept on a Quran stand. This is not only an impressive structure from the point of view of tourism but in fact, soothes eyes of all Muslims when one enters the Holy City.
5-The structure is so huge that it covers eight lanes of traffic including a center highway divider. Gateway is built as an arch over the road, and consists of three main parts:
5.1-Two premises each 30 m × 48 m (98 ft × 157 ft) wide and about 3 m (10 ft) tall, and located at sides of the road; act as support blocks for wings (make arch)
5.2-Two wings each about 80 m (262 ft) long, 48–18 m (157–59 ft) wide and 20 m (66 ft) tall, and stretching-up from premises to merge about 23 m (75 ft) above the road; act as support foundation for book (its stand)
5.3-Open book with two pages about 16.5 m (54 ft) long and 26 m (85 ft) wide each, and spanning 23–31 m (75–102 ft) above the road; acts as the main symbol for arch
6-The sides of the stand have a beautiful blue and green glass windows attached to the walls. The whole structure is decorated with various patterns and can get illuminated at night in many different ways.
7-Only Muslims are allowed to enter the Holy cities of Madinah and Makkah. It is important to mention here that there is a heavy punishment for the non-Muslims to enter the holy city.
So, please don't even try it as Saudi government is bound by the Islamic law to abstain Non-Muslims from entering the Holy city of Makkah and Madina.
8-Under the Quran Gateway structure, the government has planted palm trees between the four-laned incoming and outgoing road to Makkah.
On its sides, there is fine-cut boxwood inside tidy gardens, with shaped and perimeter fences, small parking lots and other auxiliary facilities extending into a big complex.
