7 Unique World Records held by Muslims or Muslim Countries

Western media has tried its level best to declare all Muslims as terrorist and violent and I would accept the reality that they have been very successful in portraying us like this. However, we Muslims are much different from this stereotype. Muslims all around the world throughout history have done great things. Some Muslims helped their countries and their religion to become famous all around the world by breaking all records and setting new ones. Here are a few world records held by Islam, Muslims and some Muslim countries according to the Guinness Book of World Records.[irp]

Smallest Qur’an ever made: The smallest version of the published Qur’an measures only 1.7 cm x 1.28 cm x 0.72 cm. it had been published in a bound and unabridged version, with fine Arabic print. The Quran is 571 pages long. The book was originally published in 1982 in Cairo and is owned today by Dr. Muhammad Saeed Karim Beebani from Pakistan.

First Windmill ever built: Although we normally associate windmills with the Netherlands, the earliest records show that windmills were indeed used in Iran in the 7th century AD to grind corn. The oldest windmill in Netherlands was built only in 1450.

First tourist in space (Female): A woman by the name of Anousheh Ansari, who belonged to Iran, had become the first and only female space TOURIST on 18 September 2006. She accompanied the Soyuz TMA-9 which was scheduled for a 10-day trip to the international space station and back. The businesswoman reportedly paid $20 million to fulfill her childhood dream of going into space.[irp]

Largest painting by numbers: The largest painting according to numbers measures in at 3717 meters squared and was originally created at the Punjab Youth Festival which was being held in Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan. The event took place on 14th March 2013 and represented one of the most popular moments in the history of the province. A total of 1557 people pitched in their efforts to complete the painting which took 3 hours to draw and an additional 3 hours to paint.

Highest population percentage of Muslims in a country: Afghanistan is a country which hosts the world’s highest Muslim population percentage from their total population. The country has a Muslim population of 99.7 percent from their total population, making any other religion in the region virtually invisible.

The Longest war fought over a religion:  The war which is known as Reconquista is the series of campaigns which took place in the Iberian Peninsula. This campaign was conducted to recover the region from the Islamic Moors. This began in the year 718 and continued until 1492, when Granada, which was the last Moorish stronghold, was conquered. It should be noted that the war continued irregularly for 774 years.

The oldest plant which was cultivated for drinking: Among the most historic plants which had been cultivated, mainly for drinking are grapes. The oldest documents prove that grapes were cultivated to make juice and wine as far back as 6000 BC in Mesopotamia (known in the modern day as Iraq). The oldest physical proof of storage and use of grape juice or wine comes from Iran which dates to 5000 BC.
