Madni font engraved on Islamic Scriptures to be digitized in Saudi Arabia

Arabic is an old and vast language and is also known for its vast diversity and beauty. It is later distinguished as Makki and Madni fonts. We are familiar with the Madni fonts as these fonts are used the most.

The Madni fonts of Arabic are commonly known as they were used more than 1400 years ago at the time of our Prophet PBUH to write the Holy Quran and the Sunnah of the Holy Prophet and also in correspondence to rulers around the world.

Writings on rocks and mountains slopes are also found in Madani fonts. If we study the background of Arabic language, we will come to know that there are two different theories regarding the origin of the Arabic language.

According to the historical documents found at King Abdul Aziz Foundation, Darah, grammarian Abu AL-Aswad Al-Du’ali worked on the Arabic fonts during the time of Muawiyah bin Abu Sufyan and invented a system using large color dots on certain letters to differentiate them.

Al Du’ali introduces diacritics and placed a red dot above the letter of fatnah and another red dot under the letter of Kasrah. He added a sign for damma and two dots for tanwin.

Prince Faisal bin Salman the Emir of Madinah and also the head of Madina development authority recently issued an initiative to look after the Madani fonts.

Madina had a rich legacy of early Islamic scriptures that were engraved on the rocks in mountains and valleys and also on roads that were used by old caravans. Now the government will be working on digitalizing the Madni font engraved on Islamic Scriptures.

The King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Restoration Center Tarmeem is currently looking after this legacy which many citizens and public-private libraries possess. During the reign period of Omer bin Abdul Aziz, the Sunnah of prophet Pbuh was recorded.

The copies of Quran in Madani font are kept in many libraries across the world such as National Library of France, Library in the University of Birmingham Britain, the library in Netherland Leiden University and Berlin Library in Germany.

King Fahad Complex that print Holy Quran in Madina recently launched a project to digitally process and implement suggested artistic progress to the fonts of the Madinah Quran that was printed in 1422 Hijri.

The cause of change in the Quranic font is to produce high-quality fonts via advanced quality computer programs that are specifically designed for this purpose and to enhance the quality and decoration and produce high-quality manual fonts.

Sulaiman bin Abdullah al Maryam the digital printing experts said that the Madani font is the base of all fonts that are common today. The main point of this project is to recover these fonts so the old Quranic font is digitally imitated on the computer.

Arabic is really a language which every Muslim should learn to read Quran and Sunnah in the language it has been revealed. There are many institutions offering Arabic Language Courses in Saudi Arabia. You can get admission to learn it.
