The act of blackmailing has increased over the past few years because of the advancement in technology and the extensive use of the internet.
The people sometimes are misguided and hence their personal details or private pictures fall into the hands of the wrong people who then use blackmailing for their own personal agenda.
Such people dwell in almost every part of the World and you will be shocked to know that even a Country like Saudi Arabia, which always stood first in the implementation of strict rules also has a high number of blackmailers.
In Saudi Arabia, 85 percent of the blackmail victims are aged between 16 to 30 years old and about 41 percent of these are High school girls.
The Head of commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, Shaikh Abdul Rahman Bin Abdullah Al Sanad said in his statement that we have repeatedly warned the people against illegal relationships.
People have been advised to be extra watchful when they are entering their personal details on sites that seemingly promote marriages and employment opportunities. He also advised the people to avoid sharing their personal details that could be used against them.
The victims of blackmailing are between the ages of 16 to 30 because of the interests they develop online. Using many different sites and not thinking twice about what details are they entering to sign up or what personal information are they sharing with strangers has become a common act.
Illegitimate relationships have become very common in high school students. Trusting someone blindly with such information or pictures is very dangerous and morally wrong. The blackmailers usually have two main purposes for blackmailing.
One is money and the other is sex. You’ll be surprised to know that 74 percent cases involve people seeking sex and only 14 percent involve people asking for money.
The most trending type of blackmailing was using social media applications (57%), in which the blackmailer asked for sexual favors or money.
The good thing is that 99 percent of the reported cases the blackmailer does not succeed in his/her agenda. Blackmailers are not only males as female blackmailers also exist.
The act of blackmailing is a serious crime and needs to be stopped, the best way to stop this act is to be watchful yourself while using the internet.
You should always avoid illicit relationships and never share your personal information that could be used against you in any way. The internet is an excellent source of knowledge and has its benefits but it can be very dangerous as well.
The teenagers should be properly guided and should have the knowledge of right and wrong, only then can we reduce the act of blackmailing.
Furthermore, I should say that parents can save their children from the trend of blackmailing. The blackmailers and the victims are the people among us and the reason behind this is that the parents rarely talk to or watch their children activities.
Parents should try their best to be always in touch with their children and should try to keep an eye on their activities.
