Iran and Saudi Arabia have had a history of rivalry and the recent events caused a further unrest in these matters. Things heated up when a missile fired from Yemen was intercepted near Riyadh airport on the 4th of November.
The missile was later claimed by the Houthi rebels from Yemen which are being supported by Iran. After this, even the Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman issued a statement saying that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is the Hitler of the Middle East.[irp]
The Prince further added that accepting the demands of such people does not work and has no good cause and effect as we have learned from Europe in the past. The Prince said that we do not want what happened in Europe due to Hitler to happen here in the Middle East due to the new Hitler of Iran.
The issued statement was “We learned from Europe that appeasement doesn't work. We don't want the new Hitler in Iran to repeat what happened in Europe in the Middle East.”
On the other hand, Iran denied any involvement regarding this matter. They said that they had no part in supplying any sort of missiles to the Houthi rebels. The president of Iran, Hassan Rohani warned Saudi Arabia about Iran’s strength and power in response to the accusations.
The anti-corruption committee Chaired by Crown Prince ordered the arrest of around 200 prominent and important personalities of the Kingdom. Among these people are the Princes, ministers and business tycoons of the Kingdom.
These people were not put in ordinary jails but instead, the famous Ritz-Carlton hotel in Riyadh has been made a prison for them. The luxuries of the hotel are available to the prisoners at the expense of the state.
The International media suggests that this anti-corruption campaign was a power grab. The prince, Muhammad Bin Salman gave a statement saying that such accusations were foolish and baseless. He also added that many of the important members of the Ritz Carlton have publicly accepted the corruption charges and almost the entire Royal Family is already behind him.
Everything has been said, the fact is that the decisions and risks that the Saudi Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Salman has taken surely seem to be paying off. The Prince stated that 95% of them are ready to settle with a large amount of money. Only 4% people are going to courts with their lawyers and 1 percent have been cleared after evidence and investigation.
The attorney general estimated that around $100 billion is likely to be returned to the state. The Crown Prince also stated that the experts are making sure that no businesses become bankrupt in this process.
His decisions are although ambitious but they seem to be producing results that have never been experienced before in the history of the Kingdom. The people of the Kingdom appreciate him and stand with him in this battle against corruption.
