3-This is the place where the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) received the first revelations of the Holy Quran in the month of Ramadan in 610 CE. The Holy Quran tells us that the first revelation was revealed in the month of Ramadan, on the Night of Power.

4-In beginning, The Prophet (PBUH) was receiving revelations in the form of good dreams which turned out to be true. The Prophet (PBUH) used to go to the cave of Hira and reside there in isolation. He used to make provisions for an extended period.

Whenever he returned to Hazrat Khadija bint Khuwaylid R.A, he would store up again and go back to the cave. This was the Prophet’s (P.B.U.H) practice until the truth was revealed to him by an angel.

5-One night, during the Tahajjud time, when he was alone in the cave, an angel came to him in the form of a man. The angel said to the Prophet, Read! The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied. He can't read. An angel second time held and pressed Prophet (P.B.U.H), and said again, Read!

Once again Prophet (P.B.U.H) replied that he cannot read. The angel third time embraced him until he had reached the limit of endurance and said Read! The Prophet (PBUH) still said that he cannot read. The angel further released him and said that

Recite in the name of your Lord who created. Created man from a clinging substance. Recite, and your Lord is the most Generous. Who taught by the pen -Taught a man that which he knew not. Quran 96:1-5

6-When verses of the Quran were revealed to Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be on him), that was the first day of his Prophethood. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) moved from the cave and when he was halfway down the slope of the mountain, he heard a voice saying to him, “O Muhammad, you are the Messenger of God, and I am Jibril (Gabriel)”.

The Prophet (P.B.U.H) stared at the angel and turned away from him but at whichever direction he looked, the angel was always there on the horizon, whether it was the north direction, east, south or west.

Finally, the angel turned away. The Prophet (P.B.U.H) was frightened and his heart was pounding hard. Soon, he returned home to his wife Hazrat Khadija (Peace be upon her) and asked her to Cover him. Khadija (Peace be upon her) covered him and made him feel relaxed.

The entire Quran took 22 years, 5 months and 14 days to be revealed completely.
