All of us know that the Saudi Government announced on Jan 01, 2017 that a fee of SR 100 per month will be levied on all the dependents of expatriates in Saudi Arabia at the time of Iqama renewal from July 01, 2017. Now, this fee has been implemented. The dependent’s fee will be increased to SR 200 per month from July 2018, SR 300 per month from July 2019 and SR 400 per month from July 2020. The fee has been applicable on all the dependents irrespective of their age. Every resident will have to pay the dependent’s fee even if the Iqama has been renewed. The dependent’s fee is to be paid at the time of Iqama Renewal, issuing exit re-entry visa for the dependent or final exit.
A news clip has been in circulation on social media today claiming that King Salman has canceled dependent’s fee with immediate effect. I have received this clip from 10s of sources on WhatsApp and people are optimistic that the fee has been waived off. The news clip is from Al Riyadh Newspaper website and it is clearly written there that King Salman has waived off the dependent’s fee. The news clip also states that the Saudi government does not rely on dependent’s fee to run its operations. Before reaching to any conclusion, let’s postpartum the news clip.
If you closely look at the news clip, it has been taken as a picture with a mobile camera from the website of the Al Riyadh Newspaper. Al Riyadh Newspaper is a well-known Saudi newspaper but when you try to search this news there, you will not find it at all. Either the news clip which was once published has been removed or someone used his Photoshop skills to make it viral.
The date of the news is July 02, 2017. If the news was broken yesterday, why no other news channel is covering it? I don’t think it can be true. News Channels don’t take that long to cover such kind of news.
If you check the SADAD banking accounts, they are still taking dependent’s fee from expatriates. SADAD has not changed the system, if this news was true, the system of SADAD would have been changed. Recommended: Procedure to pay Dependent’s Fee for Iqama Renewal
People are still not able to apply for exit re-entry visas of their families without paying the dependent’s fee. Now, this is the system of Ministry of Interior, if this news was true, they would have streamlined the process according to the new orders of the King. Recommended: No Exit Re-Entry Visa without Dependent’s Fee
