10 Scientific benefits of following Sunnah of breaking the fast with dates

Ramadan is a holy month for all Muslims. It is obligatory for all healthy Muslims to fast in the month of Ramadan. However, fasting is not an easy task. Not eating and drinking for several hours not only causes weakness in the body but also can experience low blood pressure, low sugar levels, hypertension, and lethargy. However, there is this great fruit that has the cure to all. A small date is a perfect choice for opening and closing your fast with. It is full of benefits that one cannot even think of.  During fast it is difficult to have a diet comprising of essential nutrients, the date is a fruit that will help you maintain a healthy diet. As per Sunnah, we shall break our fast by having 1 or 3 dates. Luckily for the people of Kingdom, Saudi Arabia is the world’s second largest date producer in the world. 1-As people suffer from low sugar levels in Ramadan, having a date shall boost up the sugar level quickly. A date is composed of fructose and dextrose which are simple sugars. These sugars will help one maintain an adequate sugar level.

2-The carbohydrate content in the dates is quite high which enables slow digestion. With slow digestion, your stomach remains full for a long time period and you won’t feel hungry. Thereby it is suggested to not immediately eat your meal after having dates, start with lighter things such as salads. You can have a meal 20 minutes after having a date.

3-Dr. Hassan Mehdi who is a physician at Arfan Clinic also appreciated the benefits of dates for Ramadan. He commented that dates are equipped with the energy and minerals that one requires staying healthy in Ramadan. It is a perfect fruit to be taken in Ramadan.

4-A date is not only tasty yet it is a great source of nutrients as well. A small date contains those nutrients that are classified as a source of growth and development for the human body. Also, it contains vitamins and minerals that are required for the well-being. Thereby dates intake during the month of Ramadan will help you maintain a balance of minerals, vitamins, and nutrients in the body.  

5-A fresh date has a soft pulp that is very easy for the body to digest. When you fast for several hours, you need to take in food that is easy to digest. A small date is the best to open your fast with.

6-A date is rich in fiber that is used as a bulk laxative. It helps protect one from cancer. Cancer causing chemicals cannot enter the colon as the fiber protects the colon mucous membrane.

7-As people age, they suffer from macular degeneration. An age-related macular degeneration causes distortion or loss of central vision. Dates have the capability to prevent macular degeneration.

8-Dates are a great source of iron. Dates are also rich in Potassium. Potassium helps maintain heart rate and blood pressure. It also protects from strokes and heart diseases.
