As it is stated in Quran (An-Nisa 4:1): “O mankind, fear your Lord, who created you from one soul and created from its mate and dispersed from both of them many men and women. And fear Allah, through whom you ask one another, and the wombs. Indeed, Allah is ever, over you, an Observer.”
So, one of the greatest mercy, power, and kindness of Allah is that he created everything in pairs. Everything is in a pair so we can get comfort and seek help from one another. The primary principle of the society is a family and a family’s main components are the husband and wife. Husband and wife are counted to be co-partners in a family.[irp]
For a successful life and happy family, the relationship between the husband and wife should be respectful and based upon tranquility in which spouse gets respect and care and the rights protected decently.
Islam grants each spouse its rights and duties which should be fulfilled with honesty and trust. Husband and wife, both complete each other which make them one spirit and complete. There is a case reported in the Criminal Court of Riyadh in which a Saudi man is sentenced to three days of detention and charged 30 lashes for biting his wife.
Although, the court gave his wife an option of forgiving her husband she did not choose that. According to the witness, he deserved the punishment. This is the first time that the Criminal Court of Riyadh allowed a woman to witness the lashing of her husband. It was reported that the wife got a deep wound on her left shoulder which was because of biting badly.
She claimed against her husband by presenting evidence in the form of a medical report, issued by a government hospital. After that, the security agencies passed this case to the criminal court of Riyadh.
The al-watin daily published report that the prosecutor of the woman visited her in the hospital where she was found in emergency ward suffering from ill health and distorted mental condition. During the medical examination, the doctors found a deep wound on her left shoulder.
Due to the deep wound, a considerable amount of blood was wasted. There were bruises observed on the claimant body as well which proves that she was abused and beaten by her husband. The police took her husband into custody and presented him in criminal court.
During the trial, under mental pressure, the man admitted the crime he committed. He also said that he had no words to express his regret about his crime of abuse which he did with his wife.
A light punishment was given to him as he was not involved in any sort of crime previously. Yasser Al-Abdali, a Legal consultant, said that the court announced this punishment based on the Shariah law which prohibits physical and verbal abuse of wives.
