Miqat means, “a stated place”. Miqats are the areas or locations at which pilgrims wear Ihram, either for Hajj or Umrah. There are five areas which pilgrims are not allowed to cross before they wear Ihram if they are going to enter Haram boundary to perform Hajj or Umrah. We have given details about these 5 locations along with GPS locations below.
Dhat Irq: This miqat is around 94 kilometers towards the North East of Makkah. This is the miqat for the natives of Iran, Iraq and for individuals from the same route. It is the Miqat used during Hajj on the way from Makkah to Kufa. This miqat has three sections: one is known as “Maslakh”, the second is known as “Qumrah” and the third one is known as “Dhat Irq” (also Zaat Irq). It is better to wear ihram from “Maslakh” but there is no harm if it is worn from the other two sections as well. Google Maps Location of Dhat Irq

Muslims nearing to Makkah to perform Umrah or Hajj must not cross a miqat without the state of Ihram unless they carry on with inside the territory, the middle of miqat and the Haram. In this case, they wear Ihram possibly at home alternately simply entering the Haram range. For example, people living in Jeddah wear Ihram from their home and people of Makkah wear it from Masjid Aisha R.A.
Narrated Ibn `Abbas: Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) had fixed Dhul Hulaifa as the Miqat for the people of Medina; Al-Juhfa for the people of Sham; and Qarn Ul-Manazil for the people of Najd; and Yalamlam for the people of Yemen. So, these (above mentioned) are the Mawaqit for all those living in those places, and beside them for those who come through those places with the intention of performing Hajj and `Umra and whoever lives within these places should assume Ihram from his dwelling place, and similarly the people of Mecca can assume ihram from Mecca. – Sahih al-Bukhari 1526
