The Internet has become an integral part of our lives. Humans have replaced most sorts of interaction and actions such as reading books and others with the internet and devices on which they can use the internet. The internet has become such a vital part of our daily lives that it usually does not only limit itself to benefitting us and may also cause us serious harm, unneeded stress and other irritation. Usually, when we hear people either shouting about something or complaining about something, we can safely assume that there is something wrong with the internet.
Internet problems may include having no internet, weak service or a disconnected service. We get affected by the unavailability or hampering of internet speeds as an unavailability of water or air. The statistics have indicated that users of the internet will be rising monumentally by the end of the current year. It is estimated that with the New Year, around half of the total population on earth will be on the internet. The ITCU or Internet Telecommunication Union is an affiliate of the UN. The ITCU expects that around 3.2 billion people are using the internet around the world whereas 2 billion people come from the developing parts of the world.
Additionally, by the end of the year 2017, internet subscriptions via cellular devices will also rise to around 7 billion. It should also be noted that the number of these particular subscriptions back in the year 2000 was only a mere 400, that too around the world. Within the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Communications and Information Technology Commission has stated that the number of Internet users has already reached 21 million and still there is increasing demand for more broadband services. Only two years ago the Internet users in the Kingdom were only 16.5 million.
The surge in internet connections can be attributed to users wanting faster speeds and better network strengths for their home/office use as well as for use in personal handheld devices such as cellular phones. It is without a doubt that I say to you that the Internet has allowed us to access numerous services by the click of a button which usually ends up saving some money and most importantly time and effort. However, like all other things that we are attracted to, we have become so dependent on the Internet that we do not acknowledge its disadvantages.
Before the internet, there was no such thing as hacking of personal information which could be extremely harmful in some cases. Furthermore, the Internet has allowed everybody fast and instant access to pornographic material which was definitely harder or impossible to acquire in Muslim countries prior to the arrival of the Internet.
Society as a whole is obsessed with the phenomenon that we call the internet, and it’s getting worse with each generation. Just imagine if one day the internet disappears, most of the world would come to a standstill leaving us literally back in the stone ages.
