What to do if you meet an accident in a rented car in Saudi Arabia?

There is an active trend of getting a car on rent in Saudi Arabia. I have already shared an article on this topic which can be read on this link “Matters to Consider when Renting a Car”. The accident is something which we don’t want to think about, the normal procedure which you need to adopt in case of an accident is described in this link “Process in case of Road Accidents”. However, this process varies slightly in case of Traffic Accident on Rented Car.

Comprehensive Insurance or Loss Damage Waiver: It is very important to subscribe for the comprehensive insurance and Loss Damage Waiver at the time of taking a rent a car. The comprehensive insurance and Loss Damage Waiver in the language of Rent a Car Dealers is available at an extra cost of SR 25-50 per day. Loss Damage Waiver is an optional service which, if accepted, eliminates your financial liability for loss or damage to the vehicle, its parts and accessories, provided the vehicle is used in accordance with the terms and conditions of the rental agreement. In case if you meet with an accident and other party’s vehicle is damaged due to your mistake, this comprehensive insurance will cover the loss. If your rented car is damaged due to your mistake, Loss Damage Waiver will cover this loss.

If you don’t have comprehensive insurance or loss damage waiver and your car is damaged, you will have to bear the loss of damage of the car. The damage includes but not limited to collision, rollover, theft, fire damage and vandalism, seizure/medical condition, flood, fire, hail or other acts of Nature.

Asif Khan: I have been through several rent-a-car accidents, it is better to get full coverage, God forbids at the time of the accident, call Najm they will prepare a report to take the papers to rent a car office they will keep the car and paper and give you replacement car and that's it. I am talking about experience with Hanco Rent a Car and around 2 times I was at fault. I would appreciate if anyone would like to share his experience of going through an accident in a rented car.

    hello

i Rented a car few months back from NLCO(car renting company) full insurance which means if i was at fault i will pay 2500 and if its party B fault i will just have to bring the najm paper and i don’t have to pay anything.

What happened was that i was going normally on the road meanwhile a car which was parked suddenly reversed and hit my car at the back. The guy in other guy smiled and ran away. I noted his number plate and called najam right away. Najm guy came after 3 hours while i was staying at the same place with the car. Najm guy and did all the formalities and i also told him the number plate of the other car and then he gave me the paper they usually give after accidents. i gave that paper to the the certain branch of NLCO from where i rented and they guy at NLCO told me i dont have to pay anything.

Now after 2 month the same NLCO guy calls me and tells me that insurance company says that the number i provided of the party B car is not correct and i have to pay 2500 SAR now. I quarreled with him amalot with as i constantly said i wont pay any money. Now he threatens me with legals things.

Now tell me what should i do at this point?

  • If you have copy of the document given to you by Najm, you do not have to worry about anything. Ask them to take you to the court. Do not pay any money unless court decides against you. By the way, they will not take you to the court for SR 2500 as they will have to wait for 8,9 months for the decision and have to visit the court many times.
