Convert Family Visit Visa into Iqama for Kids (Parents have Iqama)

Nowadays, we have witnessed many successful cases of converting family visit visa into Iqama which was second to impossible earlier. If your family visit visa is converted into permanent family visa, you don’t need to go back to your home country to process the visa. Hence, you save a lot of costs, time and energy. I personally thank Mr. Thomas Joseph for sharing with us the detailed Procedure to Convert Family Visit Visa into Permanent Family Visa. It is important to mention here that there are many successful cases of converting children visas into Iqama but we have not seen any successful case of converting spouse family visit visa into Iqama.

Procedure to Convert Family Visit Visa into Permanent Family Visa (Iqama)

Once all the above documents are ready. Go to the passport office, I went to Riyadh (KF Road, just behind ANB head office, Opposite to LULU, Muraba). Be sure to locate the correct window. Nobody knows the correct window. Climb staircase (Office is at 1st floor) go to left side, locate the cafeteria-cafeteria will be on your right side. Go straight. you will find 3 windows there. Submit all your documents to the policeman sitting at first window. He will verify your documents.

If everything ok, then he will take all your documents inside to their officer and come back in a while. They will affix a stamp on your child’s passport and write something. (I believe they are canceling the visit visa). Then they will give you a new form and ask you to remit SAR2000/-

Go outside the building and get this form filled from any agent sitting outside. He will charge you SAR5. Then deposit SAR2000 (Remember to deposit under your iqama no.-very important). This amount should appear in your abshir account. Then go to the same office again and show your documents to window no.2. He will check for the deposited money and it will disappear immediately. That’s it!

You can go home with peace of mind. Wait for few days, keep checking your abshir account. The 10th day their name started to appear under ‘dependents’. Next day I went Jawazzat with passport size photo and received iqama printed in 2 minutes.

Note: In my case, both parents are working under different sponsors. We brought our children under my wife’s sponsorship since my iqama profession was not strong to get visit visa.

I talked to Jhong and she told me she went to MOI located in Ahwal Al Madani st in Riyadh but in this blog it says you have to go to Ahwal Al Madani which is the Civil Affairs office and I don’t know why there and not to MOI? I hope somebody can correct this in order to help.

  • Raul

Hi Sadzkie, are u pinoy? where did u submitted ur documents to civil affairs or MOI? are u in Riyadh?

update: after 2 weeks, i called “ahwal e madni” again and they gave me another (5 digit numbers with hijri date), then i go to “Passport General Department” (24.670201, 46.721959) and showed them the SMS from MOI consists of (6 digit number) and the (5 digit numbers with hijri date) you got from ahwal e madni. After that, they told me the status of my papers and come back another week.

  • Sadzkie Eikzdas

    it’s already mentioned at the blog, just follow it, anyway i submitted;
    1. letter from my company (stamped by chamber of commerce)
    2. original iqama & copy of iqama
    3. original passport of wife & copy of passport page
    4. copy of her visa page
    5. diploma (vocational or degree)

  • Raul

I am from Jubail and i just submitted my docs today at MOI near Ahwal al Madani building. Actually i came back today because last Sunday they did not accept my letter due to wrong address of prince nayef. It shd be mentioned that he is the 1st prime minister and the minister of interior. Today my docs were checked and after approval the saudi who attended to me give an instruction thru MOI online that after receiving the sms from them i will log in and proceed until it’s done. Thru online also i will select where my location is and they will advise me where to go and i don’t need to go back to Riyadh. This procedure of converting visit visa is only available in Riyadh and Jeddah according to the saudi guy. I’ll keep u posted for further development of my application.

  • Raul

Hi Sadzkie, u mean to say u reciv first the 6 digit no. from MOI and last is the 5 digit and hijri date? i reciv first the 5 digit no and hijri date on the day when i submitted my docs and still waiting for that 6 digit no. til now.

  • Raul

in the letter from your company, the name of prince nayef and his position should be written properly and it should be mentioned also that your company has no objection on this.

  • Ahmed JG

Raul, please share copy or format of letter so that I shall present my case to MOI on coming working day. I can reach at [email protected]

  • sj

  • Adil Basheer

Hi Chona, Can you please share the letter you got from your sponsor. my email id – [email protected]

  • Ahmed JG

    I have forwarded to you.

  • thomas joseph

can you share your experience to [email protected]. I am also in the same situation

  • thomas joseph

Today I received Iqama for my two children. They were on visit visa. myself and wife working under different sponsors. We brought our children under wife’s iqama on visit visa. Now we transferred them to my iqama and converted visit to iqama. My profession still not changed (still my profession is not eligilble). Please do not ask questions how to covert visit visa of your wife to iqama. if you have any question matching with my scenario, I am pleased to answer. Thanks

  • Hi Thomas, I would appreciate if you can educate us about the procedure you had to follow to convert your children’s visit visa into Iqama. How different it is from the procedure mentioned above? Your input will help thousands of expatriates living in Saudi Arabia.

  • thomas joseph

I would love to post my experience here.

As I mentioned earlier, in my case both parents are working under different sponsors. We brought our children under my wife’s sponsorship since my iqama profession was not strong to get visit visa.

    Step 1. Arrange all documents.
    Required documents
    1. Birth Certificate of child and its Arabic translation
    2. Immunization certificate(Vaccination Card) and translation
    3. NOC from father’s employer stating that they have no object to transfer them to father and convert to iqama ( this letter must be CoC stamped)
    4. Passport copies of children (First page, last page, visa page+ border no. page)
    5. Passport copies+iqama copies of both parents.
    6. Attested marriage certificate and arabic translation
    7. Duly filled visa application form with company stamp.
    6. SAR 2000 (keep ready to deposit) Do not deposit until they ask you to deposit. (Important: Deposit under your iqama. Not under child’s border no.)
    That’s all.

Once all the above documents are ready. Go to passport office, I went to Riyadh. Be sure to locate the correct window. Nobody knows the correct window. Climb staircase- go to left side- locate the cafeteria-cafeteria will be on your right side. Go straight. you will find 3 windows there. Submit all your documents to the policeman sitting at first window. He will verify your documents. If everything ok, then he will take all your documents inside to their officer and come back in a while. They will affix a stamp on your child’s passport and write something. (I believe they are cancelling the visit visa).

Thats it.

You can go home with peace of mind.

Wait for few days, keep checking your abshir account. 10th day their name started to appear under ‘dependents’. Next day I went Jawazzat with passport size photo and received iqama printed in 2 minutes.

Ask me if any clarity needed.

  • Raul

Dear Thomas, is that passport office in King Fahad road? you said climb the staircase, is that 1st floor or 2nd floor? I’ve been there in December for my wife’s visa but due to language barrier my mission was not successful but I will come back there soon.

  • thomas joseph

Yes, KF road.just behind ANB head office, Opposite to LULU, Muraba. Office is at 1st floor.

  • Thanks a ton for your valuable input!

  • Raul

Hi Steve, I think this procedure should be improved properly as so many people like me faced so much hardship doing this and still I haven’t done it until now. This should be the easiest process for expats to obtain permanent visa without spending a lot. You don’t need to go back to your home country so you saved the cost of plane tickets and also your time. I hope other expats who have done this will cooperate and contribute to enable to complete the procedure.

  • Rean

Hi, have you done with the process? any updates?

  • Raul

Thanks Steve for updating the procedure and really you are right on saying that there’s nothing yet who can testify here about their spouse visit visa conversion. I am after my wife’s visa conversion and I went there in that 1st floor in Jawazat office. When I went there in Dec 28, 2016 it’s just 2 windows with 2 police on each window. There are a lot of people mostly arabs and when my time come to submit the documents as per my understanding they said that it’s not there where I should come they said Shameisy but nobody can tell where is that because I cannot understand arabic. So I went home empty and right now still hoping that somebody will come out and contribute their experience to others to help.

  • thomas joseph

Hi Mr. Raul, I observed that most of the Arab people coming to that section of passport office with Iqama application for their kids. And the 2 windows you mentioned earlier is the same office. They open third window only when crowded.

  • Raul

hi Thomas, i wonder how fast you made this it seems that you are fluent and can understand arabic or an arab helped you?

  • thomas joseph

Nope. I hardly speak few words and understand 10% only. I have been guided to correct window by another family who successfully converted to iqama. A filipino who was present there that day helped me a bit. I been there one day before with a friend who speaks arabic, but we failed to locate the correct office. We keep asking Saudi’s about the concerned office, but no one knows where it is. I had returned that day with empty hands. Next day I visited there again and found the correct office. Above procedures in the original post won’t do for your spouse?

  • I can understand how difficult it is to communicate with them when you don’t know Arabic.
I think the best thing you can do is to take some Arab with you and ask him to take the hint from where you need to start the process.
If you don’t have an Arab Frriend, you can pay SR 50 to the agents sitting outside the Jawazat office and take any of them with you who can speak basic English to explain it to you later on.

  • Rean

Please share the letter to [email protected]

  • Raul

Hi Thomas, i followed that one but only up to submission of docs and the process is different. They give me a document, a copy that can be seen in abshir and told me to follow the process online just wait for text messages of 5 digit numbers that they will send. It took a lot of time and only 1 msg they sent to me, i got 3 more 5 digits numbers but through telephone call by my arab friend who helped me. We updated it through online then the 4th one they told me to go to MOI in Malaz Riyadh but when I went there they said not from their side and referred me to Jawazat main in King Fahad road. It stopped there like i said they told me that i should go to Shameisy and nobody can tell where is that. That’s what i thought that in jawazat only for kids but for spouse it is in different government office.

  • Raul

Hi Sadzkie, any update with your wife’s visit visa conversion? I guess the process is different for spouse and kids. Your update can help a lot people here and I appreciate if you can.

  • Raul

Hi Ahmed, you are processing for your wife’s visit visa right? Can you share to us what’s the latest on your journey? It can help a lot of people here.

  • Raul

Hi Ahmed, can you share your experience with us?

  • Zain Usman

This is zain usman kindly I need your guidance my wife got a job as dentist and I moved with my wife and 2 kids with on my family visa . Our agent who posted the job on the add said the job is in jizan city or in sabya . Now the they have brought us in the samtah region and this is war effected area and we wanted to go back to our country because the manger of the clinic took the passport and documents from my wife and said if we want to go back we have to pay 12000 riyal and things are very complicated now . We are stuck here with my 2 small sons we need ur guiadnace please help us what we should do

  • He has already shared the location and other details. Read the article posted above.
I would appreciate if you can list down the steps along with some instructions which your wife took to apply for conversion of your visa.

  • Raul

Hi Ahmed we have the same process to do, your wife and also mine. What Thomas did is different because what he applied was for his kids. I also submitted documents in the Ahwal Al Madni office in Olaya street after that they gave me a document, a page which can be seen in absher site (I attached here). That Saudi guy told me to process my application thru online and follow the instruction on that piece of paper that he give me with numbers from 1 to 5. That number 3, he said a message I will receive from them then I will put the number there then start the process. I only got 1 message from then the next 3 numbers we got them by calling their phone number thru the help of an arab friend. But as I said it stopped in the 4th number at the Jawazat office in King Fahad road. It’s when I realized that the office who processed documents for spouse and kids are different. For kids it’s there in the Jawazat but for spouse they told me not there but in Shameisy but they cannot tell or nobody can understand what or where’s that Shameisy. That’s why Ahmed we have the same mission. I hope whoever can finish it first should help the other. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/2a6a664efa0e87c1d397cfe126654990fbbffceb1cdef375b0e5d7b8687f3666.jpg

  • Mahmood

Did you try this procedure? where you successful?

  • I would appreciate if you can share with us the procedure your wife adopted to apply for the conversion. It might help others. If we get one successful case here, thousands will get benefited.

  • Ahmed JG

For Kids Iqama, we can follow the process mentioned above by Mr. Thomas. But for husband wife iqama, we have to apply through MOI and if MOI approves then remaining process will be the same as explained above. I submitted application to MOI but they rejected it after 14 days and advice me to reapply with valid reasons and remaining visit visa validiy should be more than 45 days at least.

  • thomas joseph

I did not. I followed new procedure explained above.

  • Sonargaon Er Sonar Chele

    Dear Brother.

I need to change my family visit visa to Iqama.

please give me the right way to make it.

i don’t have child only for my wife

  • thomas joseph

Don’t know how to convert wife’s visit visa to Iqama.

  • thomas joseph

Give it a try. It won’t cost you much.I will send format to your email.

  • Raul

Hi Ahmed, are you in Riyadh? What’s the reason they rejected your application? I will just be looking forward to you please share once you succeeded. I am from Jubail and very far from there. I took a leave of absence when I went there 3 times in Nov and Dec last year.

  • Sonargaon Er Sonar Chele

    Thanks for your reply 🙂

  • Raul

Thomas, you paid SR2,000 for each kids or for both?

  • thomas joseph

I paid total 2000 for both.

  • I would appreciate if you can share the format here.

  • thomas joseph

    Here you go.

  • thomas joseph
  • Raul

Thomas this is nice that means SR1,000 for each but my understanding if you file for a permanent visa you should pay SR2,000 for each family member.

  • Rean

    I received it.. Thank you

  • Thanks a ton! I really appreciate your input to the blog.

  • The fee is SR 2000 for the full family for permanent family visa

  • Raul

Hi Ahmed, actually nobody here knows if spouse visa can be converted to permanent visa. What we can read here who succeeded are all for the kids only. My suggestion, because you are in Riyadh currently is why not bring with you a Saudi guy from your wife’s office who can help and ask from the people who process the documents if it is possible or no. If it is possible then ask how is the steps in doing this. We are all expats here and we don’t speak their language so a local or an arab person is of a great help to learn the procedure.

  • Sasah

Sir, where can i get the application form?

  • I second your recommendation.

  • Raul

Ahmed like I said the procedure should be learned. That woman or whoever that can speak arabic should ask where to start and what are the needed documents to be submitted, to whom or where. This is not a “LUCK” situation but if we do it the right way then there’s no reason that they will not approve it.

  • Raul

Hi Steve, is it possible to apply a visit visa for grand children? Is it same with children? What are the documents required?

  • Feroza Pochee

Hello Please advice me I am female working and my husband and kids on visit visa can I as female convert their visa to Iqma?

  • Rean

If you and your husband are under different sponsorship, you can apply iqama for your son. One of my relative did the same. They brought their daughter here in Visit visa, then visited Jawazat with all the papers and paid 2000 SAR for the iqama. that’s it.
Why do you have to change the occupation?

  • NIJUMON GOPI

    brother.

the police men told me you can pay to jawazat for 2000 sr. i paid first time for family visa.the i submit document .after that he told me this is not family visa.this is converting to iqama. that means.2000 sr payed family visa .same amount not possible to take jawazat. the payment go to another agent (istiqdam) so he told you can pay 1000+1000 two times in carrier change in id of your husband. after i show to him . he told ok the he received our document and told come back 25 days and collect iqama. but i have one doubt . i checked next day in my husband absher but did not show the amout.

  • NIJUMON GOPI

    dear thomas,

please reply. it is right way. and i have one doubt please check below.

Duly filled visa application form with company stamp. what is the form where i get this. already jawazat police men give one application form that is filled out side agency then my signature and my son 2 photo fixed not stamp company. please miscall to my phone. 0571296936 about clear this doubt.

thanks. i am waiting for your call….

  • thomas joseph

If you deposited in correct head, this amount will appear under your iqama and when you submit your documents to 2nd window, he will check the amount in their system and it should disappear from your abshir immediately. They will keep your documents for further processing once they have taken the cash you deposited from your abshir. Keep checking ‘dependants’ section in your abshir account. Your kids name should appear within 10 working days.

  • thomas joseph
  • Rean

How did you pay the amount? Through Abshir?? Under which Government Service?

  • Rean

Brother, Do you mean 14 working days or total 14 days including weekends?

  • Ahmed JG

    Yes. Including weekends.

  • michael

    hello,
do i have to get a medical insurance for my child before i can convert her visit visa to iqama?

  • Rean

One of my friend did the same for his wife. It was approved by MOI. After 10 days, he received another SMS with a number. He gave that number in MOI portel, and he was asked to go to Jawazath at King Fahad Road. When he consulted the officer at the Jawazath, they said, the management took the decision to stop this process. So it was rejected from Jawazat. Then he submitted the paper to Expat Affairs at Shumaizi. No update after that.

  • Raul

That’s what they told me yo go to Shumaisy but i don’t know where it is but now we will just wait what will happen to your friend’s fate. Thanks Rean.

  • Luar

No Sir, just pay only 2,000 sr no medical included.

  • Luar

Sir, it’s already in above mentioned please read.

  • Raul

hi Luar are u a Filipino? did u apply for ur wife’s visit visa conversion too? Can u pls update us with ur current status? Thanks.

  • Raul

hi Rean any update on ur friend’s application? Pls update us here whenever possible. Thanks.

  • Rean

They didn’t allow him to go inside the office of Expat Affairs. So he dropped the plan to proceed with this. And trying to take direct Istiqdam.

No one knows what is the procedure. If there is No such rule, then why do the MOI accept the request for converting visit visa. It’s very bad about this country.

  • Raul

i guess there’s a missing link on this procedure and possibly somebody from MOI can tell us in order to proceed.

  • Rean

Have you checked with Ahwal Madni @ Murooj after you received 2nd SMS?

  • Raul

actually i only got 1 sms i got the other 3 numbers thru calls by my arab friend, the last number was at Main Jawazat at King Fahad road but that’s the last. i got lost because they told me to go to Shumaisy a place that no one can tell where when i asked, we cannot understand each other.

  • Rean

    I’m sorry I couldn’t understand the point.
1- You received an SMS with 6 digits after submitting the paper @ Ahwal Madni.
2- Then you called 8004399999 and got another 3 numbers.
    Till here I understood.

Then what did you do? Did you go to Main Jawazat at King Fahad road?

  • Raul

yes i went to the 1st floor andshowed the last 5 digit number that i got, they told me to go to Shumaisy.

  • I would appreciate if you can elaborate the whole procedure in bullet points in 2 minutes.
    I will update it upstairs

  • Raul

Sir !Can u guide me how i can convert my family visit visa to iqama…according to new rules

  • Arif baba

Thanks thomas, i am planning to convert my daughter from visit visa to iqama, could you please tell me is it mandatory to have saudi attestation for marriage certificate? is it enough if i translate it in saudi? if it is mandatory then where i need to do it in saudi or in india? please reply me

  • thomas joseph

I think its mandatory. Try your luck with translation or get it attested from indian embassy in Saudi and try your luck. For attestation, you need to contact agents (many agents in batha, doing attestation)they will send it across to Saudi Consulate in India and get it attested. Approx chanrge SAR500-600+ courier charges.

  • Arif baba

    Hi Vino,
i am planning to convert my daughter from visit visa to iqama, i have two questions:
    1. is it mandatory to do saudi attestation on marriage certificate? or just do translate is enough
    2. can you please explain how to pay the amount, i mean which option we need to choose in SADDAD Payments?
    thanks in advance

  • Arif baba

    Dear Thomas,

thanks a lot for your quick respond, if you don’t mind could you please share with me how to pay the amount, i mean what are the options i need to choose in SADDAD Payments, i have tried to pay but bit confused, ,thanks a lot

  • thomas joseph

I would advise not to deposit cash until jawazat officer ask you to do so. Refer previous posts from Nijumon Gopi regarding this. All heads showing under government payments can not be accessed by Jawazat. In my case, I had deposited money under some wrong head. later, i deposited under my iqama with the help of office outside jawazat. They charge SAR50.
